Riding to Work in London on My Electric Brompton *Busy Roads, Launch Control & the Tube!

In this video, I will show you what it's like commuting through London on an Electric Brompton.
Is this the best way to commute in London, good question? The electric Brompton is certainly up there with the very best methods. I'll start by riding 8 miles from East London into central London. I'll then get the tube back from Tottenham court road to Stratford.
Cycling through London can be daunting, I appreciate the danger. But having an electric Brompton with launch control certainly helps get you out of many situations.

Great review, enjoyed watching it. Almost want to move to london or a busy city so i can buy one haha. Just a chilled out power assisted ride to work, no harder than walking and not getting sweaty. Easily stored and if it's a wet road the mudguards keep your feet/arse dry, if the heavens open you can still take the train/taxi home. 👌👍

I only want the Launch control option. Never again would I have that dread in my stomach when I’m at a traffic light and I’ve stopped on a high gear 😭

Do you know what, 1 month returning back to this comment, I’m finding that I’m getting quicker at green lights, so no need for a launch control. I think the only time I dream about an electric bike is when I’m cycling from Liverpool Street to London Bridge on a windy day. At some points I swear I’m going backwards 🤣

The 25kmh limit mean pure motor output right? You can still ride at any speed by the combination of foot power and battery ???

That is correct, you can pedal faster that that. Or roll faster down hill for example. 👌🏼

They are always saying on the tube that is prohibited any e-cycles (even folded). Is this one legal to carry?

To be honest, probably not. I mean no one said anything to me and it was a busy station so that's saying something. I didn't realise they weren't allowed to be honest.

@@JourdainColeman I made the research, looks like to rule only applies to e-scooters. Eletric bikes as fine, since they have better protection of the battery.

I so much wanna covert my Brompton to ARCC electric but pricing is an issue. £1800 just for conversion is way too much.

It's a lot of money for sure for the conversion. It's probably the best on the market though. I hope you find a happy middle ground.

It ends up working out around the same price as a stock electric Brompton. Those are around £3k-ish. If you pick up a new non-electric Brompton for around £1,200, which is not impossible, and convert it for £1,800, then you arguably have a better electric Brompton for the same money. Of course, the conversion probably appeals most to people who already have a non-electric Brompton.

Are electric bikes allowed on London Underground

I think it's more related to if they can fold or not. You can take folding bikes on the underground by carrying them, but you cant't take bikes that don't fold. I hope that helps.

Also, most small folding ebikes are between 15 / 20 kg. To be honest, it's not that fun lugging it around the London underground.

@@JourdainColeman great 2nd hand market if you ever consider. I’m good thanks, but have been off the road bike for a few months. Not sure why, does that happen to people? Mhmm . Yup have not put on Lycra in a good while. Perhaps I’ll regain the mojo . But luckily I commute by bike so still staying active and putting in some baseline mileage.

Hey my frined! It certainly does happen to people. I'd say it's a natural cycle for the mind and the body (excuse the pun). I've had the same thing the last few months. I'm also starting to train in the gym more at the minuet which is feeling good. Nice that you have your commute to keep the legs spinning. At the end of the day, the mind has to want to do it, then the body will follow. A happy and healthy life is the desire outcome, how you get their is your personal journey. Take care friend.

yeah, it going to vary depending on your needs / ability. Where it is good for anyone though is getting somewhere and not being hot and sweaty. So riding to work for example. Although I'd choose to use my legs any day of the week. 👍🏽
