Would it be easier to build a support wall on each side in that attic center from peak to birds mouth ( from house to garage) now before closing it in? And would that take most of burden of weight from the deep cut birdsmouths?

@@AutisticMorty If could be running off a GFCI that is inside but then it should be labeled GFCI on the outside outlet. If still would need a proper external cover. Personally I never run one outlet off another GFCI. I just run straight power to each GFCI outlet so if it pops I can just reset it. Sometimes when they are run off another outlet and that pops it can be hard to locate where to reset it.

All you have to do is, take the chainsaw and cut 4 lengths of tree as high as the shed. Place those under the shed. Now let most of the air out of the tires of the trailer and pull it out. The tree sections will hold the shed up.

If you’re concerned, 2 easy improvements: 1) scab a piece of OSB sheathing at least 6-8” above/below the birds beak with glue or adhesive and screws; 2) a triangle is incredibly strong - put a ledger board across the wall surface at the height of the rafter tails and then add returns. You can attach breathable soffit material underneath to give it a finished look underneath when done. Good luck - really appreciate and enjoy your content!

You need 2 "handyman jacks" to lift the shed. One side at a time, one jack on each corner, lift it off the trailer and block it, remove the trailer and walk it back down on the blocking, one side and then the other, back and forth. Not as easy as the tractor but it works well I've done it several times. The jacks will lift about 4000lbs each. The jacks are sometimes called "high lift jacks". Good luck, things are looking good.

I agree with the other two guys about using the Jack's to raise it above the trailer. Use cribbing blocks to hold it up so you can get the trailer out. Use the Jack's to lower it 2 inches at a time each side till you are on your cement foundation blocks. That is how they do when they move houses. It might take a little long but the Jack's are cheaper then the main drive section of the tractor.Good luck and be safe.👍

Just use the bottle jack on each side to jack up the shed off the trailer. Piece of cake for a 12 ton jack. It would be time consuming, but not too bad.

Just nail some Simpson rafter hangers on each rafter. The kind that nail to the wall and wrap around the joist. This would lock the rafter to the wall.
@paulmonk78203 жыл бұрын
Bob, I doubt that the Simpson Strong Ties will add much support to the rafter tails. Their job is to keep the rafters from moving. The concern is that with any substantial weight on the overhang, the weakened rafter tails will not be able to hold it without further support. The birdsmouths took too big a bite out of the rafters.
@paulmonk78203 жыл бұрын
Get more cement blocks and set it on them so you can get the trailer out. You can lower it to the height you want later, when the tractor is back in commission.

If you use your tractor to pick again keep the forks wider. May have contributed to the failure of the cast hub. Would keep an eye on the other side for stress cracks. Also agree that it wouldn't hurt to put gussets back to the wall from your overhangs. All good stuff

I built a shed about the size of your. However I placed floor joists on 4x6 post beams that ran the length of the building that were cut on the ends at 30 degree angle. This made the building slidable. I drilled 5/8” hole about 10” back from the end to put a rope through and it worked very well.

Corbels aren’t normally a part of you architectural style but you could use them to add back strength to that weak overhang. One at each end and one in the middle would work with the facia board to add strength. Or....you could build a large garden window wall to wall. Anyway you’ll work it out.

You juggle a lot of projects very well. Martin...I caught that "thinking in songs moment"... "One way or the other"...I do it all the time myself. It's was a LOL moment for me to see other people doing that. My suggestion is to use blocking between the rafter tails for additional support and I think you will be fine. Plenty of scrap wood so its a no cost fix. A suggestion on your siding is to go metal or cement board for fire resistance as you might be prone to forest fires. Seth...keep up the great work...!!! You can put 2x4 ‘s straight out from the wall that will make a triangle and will support the rafter tails and will be covered by the soffit when you put it on. Just a thought that I think will help. But you will probably be ok like you said you have a 2x8 facia that does connect them all together.
@shopart14883 жыл бұрын
If you had a two foot hang with a 2x4 truss you would only have 3-1/2.” of support. From my contractor days I think you will be just fine. If you want to make your self feel better about it, sister a scab on each rafter before you close it up.

I saw a video a couple of years ago, where some one put their shed on an old trailer permanently. Basically the metal framing of the trailer was ok (they bought it used and had to do a little buit of welding repair) but it had no wood left. So they just put the shed on timbers cut to fit the trailer and bolted it all together. And they had a permanently mobile shed. I don't now why one would want that but they did it. And I thought it was a cool concept so I am sharing it here.
@BulletproofPastor3 жыл бұрын
Weak rafter tails: If you plan to close in the soffits anyway (or decide you need to now) it can add a LOT of strength by bracing the end of the tails to the side of the house.
@WolfPackRacing3 жыл бұрын
The same bottle jack you leveled it up with, while sitting on the trailer, can be used to also allow you, to get it off the trailer... Simply jack it up just like you did with the forks, pull the trailer out....now raise the jack on one side so that it is almost fully extended and shed is 1/2"off the blocks... take one block out each end... replace it with a smaller block... lower the jack...now go to the other side do the same thing... keep repeating the process until you have lowered it to the height off the ground you want it to be.. 2" to 3" s at a time... jack it up to lower it down...in 10 minutes you could have it setting right where you want it...
@freeatlast10203 жыл бұрын
You can take the shed off the trailer with the 2 bottle jacks the you used to level the trailer. The same procedure just use the bottle jacks instead of the tractor. I would lower it by one wooden block at a time for safety.
@mehardies39993 жыл бұрын
Can you just use the bottle jacks on the trailer bed and under the skids to raise it enough to put a few cinder blocks under each corner? After that is supported, on the corners, use the jacks to help remove the supports from the trailer. That should enable you to pull the trailer out and then slowly lower the shed corner by corner until you have the height you desire. Good luck. Love watching the show!

To be safe that exterior plug at 5:38 should have an outer housing cover of that. It also would be safer as a GFCI plug. Right now I would fail that plug. I do house inspections for a living and that would not work and neither would those rafter tails. Down here they would have to be replaced to meet code. Just FYI normal water weighs around 8 pounds per gallon or about 1 sq foot. Imagine the weight of the snow falling off the roof en masse and following gravity. I bet they break. If you run a board horizontally from the tail ends back to the wall to create a flat soffit that will help mitigate the problem so the end forms a triangle and the crashing show weight will be transferred more to the wall. It's ok to ask the experts out here how to do these things.

Those forks are a waste of time if you don’t go all the way under. The further away the more effort your tractor needs, think levers. The stress on the front hub is directly related to the weight you put on it by having the shed half way down the forks.

it would take a long time but you could lower the shed with the jacks you have, granted it would only be inches at a time but it would work

At 10:09. I do not know the dimensions of the shed but I think you needed at least 96"forks. I have used slip on extensions with the 48" forks to make it 96" total length. Now I will see your solution. Good solution. Could you have used the jacks, blocks and wood to raise the shed off of the trailer and then lower it one piece of wood or block at a time? I got that from how you raised the shed up. Have good days and maybe the parts will get there sooner than expected.
