Wolf Creek Ski Area is one of the snowiest ski mountains in Colorado. It averages about 400" of snow per year. Great spring skiing.

I had to try Wolf Creek Pass once in my life. Being a Midwesterner, I knew I'd never get another chance. Coming over Wolf Creek Pass on a harley, with 7 others, back in 2007. Just about the time we crested the top an absolute monster rain storm hit. Couldnt see more than just a few feet....literally, 3-5 feet. Scariest time on a motorcycle ever, and Ive ridden a couple hundred thousand miles. We couldnt stop because there was no safe place to pull over. We could only hope the guy in front was on the right side of the road, that no other cars were over the line, and that we didnt go off the edge. That section of road has been burned into my mind. Ive only been there that one time, havent seen any video like this in all these years, yet 14 years later it looks exactly like what I had remembered. We finally stopped at the gas station once coming down. I was never so relieved to pull over and shut the bike off. Whew...that was a rough one

Me an' Earl was haulin' chickens On a flatbed out of Wiggins And we'd spent all night on the uphill side Of 37 miles of hell Called Wolf Creek Pass Which is up on the Great Divide We was settin' there suckin' toothpicks An' drinkin' Nehis and onion soup mix And I says, "Earl, let's mail a card to mother And then send them chickens on down to the other side Yeah, let's give 'em a ride" Wolf Creek Pass, way up on the Great Divide Truckin' on down the other side Well, Earl put down his bottle Mashed his foot down on the throttle And then a couple'a boobs With a thousand cubes In a 1948 Peterbilt screamed to life We woke up the chickens We roared up offa that shoulder Sprayin' pine cones, rocks, and boulders And put four hundred head Of them Rhode Island Reds And a couple a' burnt-out roosters on the line Look out below 'Cause here we go Wolf Creek Pass, way up on the Great Divide Truckin' on down the other side Well, we commenced a-truckin' And them hens commenced a-cluckin' And then Earl took out a match And scratched his pants And lit up the unused half of a dollar cigar and took a puff Says "My, ain't this pretty up here" I says, "Earl, this hill can spill us You better slow down or you gonna kill us Just make one mistake And it's the pearly gates For them 85 crates Of USDA-approved cluckers You wanna hit second?" Wolf Creek Pass, way up on the Great Divide Truckin' on down the other side Well, Earl grabbed on the shifter And he stabbed her into fifth gear And then the chromium plated Fully illuminated Genuine accessory shift knob Come right off in his hand I says, "You wanna screw that thing back on, Earl?" He was tryin' to thread it on there When the fire fell off a' his cigar And dropped on down Sorta rolled around And then lit in the cuff of Earl's pants And burned a hole in his sock Yeah, sorta set him right on fire I looked on outta the window And I started countin' phone poles Goin' by at the rate of four to the seventh power Well I put two and two together And added 12 and carried five And come up with 22 thousand Telephone poles an hour I looked at Earl and his eyes was wide His lip was curled, and his leg was fried And his hand was froze to the wheel Like a tongue to a sled in the middle of a blizzard I says, Earl, "I'm not the type to complain But the time has come for me to explain That if you don't apply some brake real soon They're gonna have to pick us up With a stick and a spoon" Well, Earl reared back And cocked his leg Stepped down as hard as he could on the brake And the pedal went clear to the floor And stayed right there on the floor And he says it was sorta like steppin' on a plum Well, from there on down It just wasn't real pretty It was hairpin county And switchback city One of 'em looked like a can full'a worms Another one looked like malaria germs Right in the middle of the whole damn show Was a real nice tunnel Now wouldn't you know Sign says clearance to the 12-foot line But the chickens was stacked to 13-nine Well we shot that tunnel at a hundred-and-ten Like gas through a funnel and eggs through a hen We took that top row of chickens off Slicker than scum off a Louisiana swamp Went down and around and around and down We run outta ground at the edge of town Bashed into the side of a feed store In downtown Pagosa Springs Wolf Creek Pass, way up on the Great Divide Truckin' on down the other side Wolf Creek Pass, way up on the Great Divide Truckin' on down the other side

Waiting for this video! 30 years ago about midnight, temperature -14 deg and in a full rocky mountain blizard with a foot of powder on the road, I was late for date in Durango. The tires were chained up as required on the 1973 volvo passenger car. Apparently the pass was closed, for there was no other vehilcle to be seen. Then theres that sinking feeling afterr summiting when the car begins to lift up and loose momentum. About 31.5 in the video both headlights whent out (when a relay froze up)and i could not tell where the road became air. About then a grader passed me clearing the road and provided some light for me to follow. Till now I have never seen Wolf Creek Pass in the light of day, but those obtuse tree lines against the night sky are still memory pefect! Thanks Mike!

I was doing close to 125 mph when I got close to the left hairpin. Hard braking and down shifting, I slid around the turn and punched it to straighten out. I didn't do that again but it was nice to know what the car could do when necessary. Wife was a bit upset with me! Keep the greasy side down until our next ride together!

Pretty funny, went over the pass Thursday morning........ 600 hp, 10,000 lbs., yippee! Lucky us, all I do is run the Four Corners out of Salt Lake....... It is always an interesting ride.

Hi Mountain Man Mike. Nice drive. There is a road that has a down hill slope that comes to an intersection. It is common that most people are over the speed limit. Well, I got caught on a hand held radar (1970’s). I wanted to see how fast I was going. When the officer moved the unit towards me it unplugged it’s self from the car and the screen was blank. I didn’t get a ticket just a warning.

I always think of the song "Wolf Creek Pass" by CW McCall. It was on the Convoy album. This is a great video.

We drove Wolf Creek Pass back in March 2000. I don't remember snow avalanche sheds. If memory serve right the top is around 10,000.
