(9:47) "If your doing 30, 40 takes you don't know what your doing" -- yeah, David Fincher

Which is one of the reasons why Fincher 5 times the director Ridley ever has been. Ridley Scott directs for the sake of directing whereas Fincher always wants to make the best film possible. Scott keeps directing every few years and yet his good films are few and far between the trash he often makes. And the trash he's made in the last two decades is overwhelming. The last bad film Fincher made was Alien 3 in the 90s, which wasn't entirely his fault either.

@@travisbickle9756 Kubrick would agree however. He never says he knows what he wants, he just knows what he DOESN'T want.

(09:48) you cannot generalize your theory doing many takes means you are not knowing what you are doing as a director. David Fincher seems to know what he is doing as well as Stanley Kubrick. Sometimes you are looking for something in the actors‘ particular performance, which you cannot articulate in a good way; you got to find out by various versions. Mr. Fincher repeats the action up to 100 times, doing one take after the other, up to a point the text and action of the scene is totally internalized by the actor; then the actor becomes the character in his view (e.g. THE SOCIAL NETWORK‘ dialog in the bar in the beginning). (Never the less, ALIEN is on my personal TOP 10 list for the island for all times!)

The only director to credit Giger. This makes him the de facto best director of any Alien franchise movie. Without Giger, the entire franchise would have been absolutely nothing, and he's the only one who understand that. The other lot are too full of themselves to notice.

Giger was grateful to Ridley all his life for it. He always lit up when discussing working on Alien with Ridley. I think he understood Ridley was an artist like him

Ridley Scott: "If you’re doing 30, 40, or 50 takes, you don’t know what you’re doing." Stanley Kubrick: "You sure about that?"

This is why he’s very hit or miss, he doesn’t get actors and does many takes. He relies on screenplay and casting. Unlike say Kubrick who would do millions of takes to get what HE NEEDS! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤡🤡🤡🤡🌍🌍🌍🌍
