1980s: Girls having cheerful and enthusiastic fun 2020s: Girls having melancholy and depressed fun
@qewrtyuio5 ай бұрын
the song is meant to be sad... in the 80s women were fighting for equality and the idea of the working woman and single mothers was barely being something accepted within society... the song is response to that, girls just want to have fun aka just mf exist but they keep on being judged and scrutinized for living
@RandomGirl-gx6ev5 ай бұрын
Or maybe we're just depressed e.g. Trump, the current Supreme Court, Andrew Tate, Elon Musk, Ben Shapiro, Piers Morgan, Jordan Peterson, Russell Brand, the list is literally endless

For those who don’t get the misogyny lemme break it down. First of all context is key, in the Male version his first line is “the phone rings in the middle of the night” and the father saying he needs to get his life together aka saying he needs to settle down. The man says that his father is the “fortunate one” implying that he is lucky he bagged a woman because “girls just wanna have fun” which in context is him saying “I cant settle down, women only want sex not marriage” also implying he blames women for his lack of a relationship. In the female version she sings the second verse first “I come home in the morning light” and the mother says “when you gonna live your life right? Also implying that she should settle down. She sings “oh mother dear we’re not the fortunate ones” meaning that women (historically speaking) don’t get the chance to go out and enjoy there youth before being pressured into settling down, “but girls, they want to have fun” followed by “oh girls just wanna have fun” meaning that women want to enjoy there youth and not be rushed into marriage. The change in tone from “girls just” to “but girls, they want” also changes the implications, the male version sounds like a guy blaming women, the second is a women stating that she desires more than just a husband. These little details, while hard to notice, can completely change the meaning behind a song. In the male second verse, he sings the “come home in the morning light” which after the first line of “the phone rings in the middle of the night” imply a that he’s just come home from a hookup, when followed by his mother yelling for him to “live his life right” instead of reflecting, he blames women again by stating that “girls just want to have fun” In the female version she sings “the phone rings in the middle of the night” which after the first line of “coming home in the morning light” imply that she is going out for the night with friends her father yelling “ what you gonna do with your life?” Means that he thinks she should focus on getting married rather than going out with friends. She reply’s “oh daddy dear you know you’re still number 1” which is her saying “I don’t want to marry yet” aka he’s still the number 1 man in her life. The final line in each helps reinforce the meaning behind them both. The male version sings “these girls just wanna have fun” meaning he doesn’t have a girl in mind, he means all Women of marrying age in his generation. It tells the listener that he blames women for the fact he isn’t married and he believes that there are no good women anymore who want to get married. The female version sings “Oh girls, they wanna have fun” reiterating the point that young women want to enjoy there lives, breaking away from traditional values where women get pressured into marrying young, and intern waste there youth. (Obviously I’m not saying that all women who marry young waste there youth but this is from the perspective of a girl living in a time where it was expected for young women to throw away their lives and get married asap) So to conclude, The male version is the story of a man who sleeps around, wishes to and is pressured to settle down by his parents but can’t for whatever reason. And instead of searching for a wife he blames women, stating that women just want sex and not a committed relationship, he complains about how he can’t find a girl to marry, insinuating that there are not good women left. The female version is the story of a woman who is pressured by her parents to settle down when all she wants to do is live her life and enjoy her youth. It’s about a young woman who doesn’t want to marry young, despite the societal pressure to get married. Remember this song released in 1983, a time where it was more normal for young people to marry early, girls just wanna have fun is a song about women enjoying their lives before rushing into marriage and it tells women that while you can get married, there is nothing wrong with wanting to party and enjoy youth. I hope this was helpful :)
@Bananasplitsssz5 ай бұрын
So the misogyny in this is that he blames women for not wanting a relationship with him, it’s women’s fault, women are the reason he’s not married. He sings that women want to sleep around and not marry which is misogynistic, remember this is from the 80s, a time where women where slowly getting more and more independent, able to go out, work, vote, leave the family home for more than just shopping ect… this song, for this time period is like an 80s incel. It intern blames feminism for his lack of a relationship. “Women don’t want to marry anymore, they just want to go out and sleep with people” which you can compare to model incel culture, He’s calling women who want to live freely, wh*res because they won’t marry him.

What a prescient song - actually both versions. Men blaming women for their own failures...again.
@Chessheromusic3 ай бұрын
Wow this song is incredibly sad I started crying after while As both genders , blame and isolate A man who can't find a wife bc girls want to have fun A girl who is not taken seriously bc she's young And the men think "girls just wanna have fun " Her mother tells her , her wisdom buts it's not the truth she feels coming from the world So girls only care about fun and everyone is alone

Bc at its core it's very sad It's Not fun Both genders are pushed by the world to blame and isolate from each other A man who can't find a companion bc he believes girls just wanna have fun A young woman who would love to believe her mothers wisdom but is being told that she's young and all she wants is fun You felt the harsh loneliness coming from both sides ❤ It's ok I cried too
