God bless you majdq8: I recently bought an used riffe 120x at great conditions. Yet I found the gun to be underpowered with the standard setup for longer shots and I was thinking to sell it again. Yet when I add three 5/8 rubbers, two normal ones and one with twice wishbones to avoid stress to the band slot; it shot with great power but not necesarily with accuracy. Yet after watching your set up it impressed me very much because with that shaft the gun looks that operates perfectly and 7mm is enough for small and big fish alike. Great review you made me love my gun again. God bless dive safe.

I'm thinking in only changing the shaft and the lenght of the bands. Do you think that the wings are necessary to obtain the same result? I was reading that the sharkfins of those shafts are weak (www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=148671&page=3) so what about using the new shaft riffe has of 6.75 mm instead of the 7.1mm original shaft?

No the wings are not at all necessary, I put them mostly because I would always have to manually fix the bands to lay flat. As for the shaft, I wouldn't go for the Riffe shaft at all ... in my tests the groups of the Riffe shaft at 6 meters were about the size of a basketball, but with the Sporasub shaft the grouping was one ragged hole. The older Sporasub shafts were glued on and I don't recommend them, but the newer ones are welded and you don't have to worry about them being weak. Take a look at my Ulusub 145 test where I had a failure using the Sporasub shaft and I explain the different versions in detail. Check out this link Ulusub 145 test day 2

That ulusub gun is incredible the price is out of range for me right now but I have it in my wish list. I would like to ask you a favor. I would like to see the penetration experiment you did with the ulusub to be done with the euro it would be great for gun comparison. Thanks for your reply. God bless dive safe brother.

I would go with 2 x 14mm small ID bands at 360% stretch.

Defaul rubber for riffe euro 120 = 75cm, maybe to strech if you use 62cm, than impact more recoil

Hey Madjq8, thanks for the great video! Ive read your advice on forums, and trying to figure out how to best configure my new Riffe Euro 120x. From what you say, 14.5mm bands are the way to go. As for the shaft though, you recommend to weld on shark fins to a shaft. I don't think I can manage that, so what would your next best recommendation be for a shaft without having to do any modification myself? On a side note, how do you maintain your Riffe? Simple oil it? I have heard of some people applying epoxy.

what are the poor design aspects of the riffe flopper? Is it something that can be fixed on the grinder?
@ngirabedechal
@ngirabedechal 4 жыл бұрын
Change the pin. Trim the flopper so it doesn't hang past the sides. Riffe use the same flopper on various size shaft so on the shafts that are smaller than 9/32 the rivet hole is not centered and the flopper extends past the sides . The pin or rivet they use is shit with a ball on one side and flat and poorly formed head on the other.

@marcelomurcia8442 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, the edges definitely stick out quite a bit. What do you use as flopper pins, anything normally found at the hardware store?
@ngirabedechal
@ngirabedechal 4 жыл бұрын
@@marcelomurcia8442 I use stainless wire cut from balloon whisk ( used for cooking) you have to find the right size . You can also cut from swivel clips or tuna clips. Even the rivets provided when you order new flopper, like from neptonics is fine, just use better care to install, and grind down the heads even. The strongest pin you can make will be shifter cable from outboard motor but you Wii have to re-drill to a 5/64 pin hole. The standard on most shafts including riffe is 3/32. And is weaker but ok on shaft 9/32 and up

Great modification & test pro,, Do you recommend this setup for the 120X,,, two 3/4" X 28" ,,, 7.1 X 160 shaft ? my concerns are about cracking the wood and shaft flexing,, Best regards,,
@majdq8
@majdq8 10 жыл бұрын
Not at all, 2 x 3/4" would be too much and your shaft will oscillate and dissipate energy and you lose accuracy ...you will end up with less power than 2 x 5/8" bands. Also a 160cm shaft will have too much overhang and you will end up shooting low so a 150cm is better. Best setup for the 7.1mm shaft is to use 5/8" bands cut 62cm and 66cm respectively using 4cm wishbones. To avoid cracking your muzzle make sure that when you push the bands through, the front screw with SS spacer is screwed on ... if you try to push a thick band through without doing that, you will easily crack the muzzle (seen it happen a few times).

@majdq8

TCU41 The Riffe shaft is very good but the flopper is a problem. What you could do is get a cone from Sigalsub and install it just before the flopper. This will dramatically improve accuracy and penetration on target.

Hello,I'm use riffe euro 110. When I'm shooting everytime shaft goes down. Is it good idea to use teak wings ? Does standart riffe wings have good size for riffe euro?
@majdq8
@majdq8 8 жыл бұрын
Riffe doesn't make wings for the Euro but not to difficult to make them yourself. What you want is to elevate the bands to where they are more inline with the shaft. This keeps shots a little higher and lets the bands sit better.
@andreylutonin9613
@andreylutonin9613 8 жыл бұрын
+majdq8 thank you) do you make it by changing size and form of standart wings or you make it from piece of teak wood? Can you explain me tochnology ?
@majdq8
@majdq8 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrey. Yes I made it from teak wood. I basically made a plate from teak that was 2cm thick and 22cm by 10cm ... then contoured the edges and drilled 2 holes through it and cut the plate in half. I matched the holes on the stock and screwed the plates on. The screws go from the wing, through the stock to the other wing on the other side. You make the plate flush with the top of the stock. The plate reduces muzzle lift (which causes low shot) and stabilizes the tip much more as it offers a little more flotation where it is needed. Also the bands are elevated ... which keeps them inline with the shaft and keeps shots higher and flatter.

Any thoughts on the Riffe 110x?

Thank you majdq8,do you think primeline bands could stretch at 360%?
@majdq8
@majdq8 6 жыл бұрын
Yes of course. Actually they go to 390% and even 400%. But for a 7mm shaft I don't find you need more than 360%. Hard to believe but a 15mm small ID band at 380% stretch will give you less performance than a 14mm small ID band with lower 360% stretch if you use a 7mm shaft. Just a comment on your technique: When only shooting with your right hand on such a large gun, the gun will shoot right. This is because the back of the gun shifts left from the recoil, before the shaft leaves the track. To compensate for this, hold the handle with both hands like you would a pistol. That almost always corrects for this. Anyway, just sharing some things that I have learned. :)
@majdq8
@majdq8 9 жыл бұрын
SerenityInTheBlue Actually a large gun with a lot of recoil will shoot left for a right hander. It is called "Left Shift". And yes you are right you can correct this by holding the butt of the gun. The Riffe Euro is actually not too powerful as it only uses 2 bands. With 2 x 16mm bands it does not suffer Left Shift unless you really cut the bands very short.
@SuperReef78
@SuperReef78 9 жыл бұрын
Huh, maybe I naturally compensate then? :P You probably have more experience than me. Thanks for the clarification. :) But either way, great video. I enjoy drooling over the spearguns you test! ;)
