Observations: 1) Couldn't Slim Jim have done more to warn Trigby about the manhole, or at least bailed before they went in it? 2) Orville committed a pretty egregious bike- safety blunder too, which the narrator didn't comment on: Allowing his bike basket to become dangerously overloaded. That can cause serious problems relating to both balance and distraction. 3) I've seen arguments both for AND against what Philip did (Riding against traffic) in terms of safety. One in favor of it is that it lets the bicyclist better see oncoming cars and avoid them. People don't have eyes in the backs of their heads, you know. 4) The bulging eyes seen before a couple of the deaths (Philip's and Filbert's) were serious nightmare- fuel.

Orville secretly hated his "friends" and after months of subtle egging on, focused on their flaws. Kidnapping them was easy, the highly experimental genetic mutation Chambers were harder to come by. However after sedating them, and weeks of quiet reconstruction of DNA, Orville regresses his friends to primates, with only the desire to ride bikes and openly display previously subtle personality quirks. After one by one his "friends" succumbed to the inevitable kiss of death, Orville took every bag lunch and offered it to Baphomet. His dark lord rewarded him with a nifty 10 Speed Bike. Boards of Canada used clips from this short, for the video to "Everything You Do is a Balloon" (on their EP "Hi Scores"). Fun fact!

“May not”? Mike definitely wouldn’t like what he found. Seriously, if nuclear war led to the Planet of the Apes, what sort of horrific catastrophe led to the world this takes place in?

Thanks for choosing one of the most freaky and bizarre shorts I've ever seen. Deeply scary and fascinating at the same time, I couldn't look away.

By 1963, pre-Vietnam-War-era, pre-Beatles-era culture was starting to savagely turn in on itself. Rock music and long hair was the only hope.

I got one of those Rifftrax friends subscriptions and there are a TON on shorts on there. Close to 300 I believe. They've made me very happy. Most of them aren't quite as weird as this one.

One of my all-time favorite shorts to be riffed on. It may not be a great short film, but at least it’s mildly amusing for its morbidly funny premise, especially with the fairy tale type of quality in Edward Everett Horton’s narration. Right? Right.
