Hi, I can’t think of any equipment issued to us that had such minute usage as this helmet! We tried not to put it on until the last moment on embarking and it was the first bit of kit to be taken off on landing and in most cases it took precedence to having a slash. The knot in the liner cord always dug into your scalp and in spite of any padding it was always uncomfortable, heavy and could have been so much better designed had the treasury allowed the funds to be available. When serving in the Middle East we would repaint the helmets in a sandy colour and add a sprinkling of fine sand over the helmet when wet with paint. This would give a sandpaper effect allover and add a bit more weight. The daily fatigue dress in those desert for us was a beret, PT shorts and boots, no wonder most of us got skin cancer in our old age if we ever survived that long. Cheers mate Harera

Thanks for the video. My father gave me an Army helmet in the mid 70s that was scrap which he said might have been an airborne but thanks to your the hole in the top means it wasn’t. I can’t remember now what the steel helmets in the 80s were like and no doubt there have been various iterations since.

Outstanding indeed!! Would have been a comfortable helmet to jump with as a Paratrooper. Much more practical than the M1C the ones I have jumped with before the PSGAT Kevlar which wasn't bad.

Wonder if there was ever any misidentification between British Airborne and Fallschirmjager in WW2 given their very similar designed helmets.

Nice one. The paint finish on HSAT Mk2 is very variable which is understandable given the helmets' longevity. Some textured, some black/green camo and others drab OG. My own is similar to yours... possibly a Land Rover deep bronze green. Amusingly, another channel incorrectly makes reference to Steel Helmet Airborne Troops (SHAT) 🙂

The lining was manufactured by Christy & Co Ltd (London) who's factory was in Stockport.

This helmet was the same as the helmet used during world war 2. It's very cool too,

You either have gigantic hands, or the helmet was designed for a small child.
