Toshi gives some nice insight as to why one amp that may not work for one guy, in one application, and yet may be perfect for another. A bedroom player may try the AC20, and hate it's sound, yet if that same player was listening to a mixdown of himself in a band, the AC20, and BB+ would both be perfect. The guitar is a midrange instrument. Especially in a large band with Bass, and Horns, there is only a small frequency band which is free for your instrument to be heard clearly. Excellent rig.

Wow, the setting on Jimmy's amp is pretty radical. He seems to have the mid scoop switch engaged and he also has the Hi Mids and the low mids dialed way back. How does he get any kind of punch and definition with that setting?

That may be a '66 Jazz Bass body but that neck I'm pretty sure is an early 70's neck..Black block inlays, size/font of the logo and maple finger board don't line up with '66..just sayin'..also, why didn't Rebecca ask about the pickups..! ? Not sure they are original (black poles).. and what's the deal with the Pre set up btwn the J's..guess Jimmy also spaced out on talking about it..

He's got quite a few vintage Fenders, my guess is he bought it that way. It's definitely a unique mod on a unique bass. If he's correct in that it's a 66, which it looks like it is, it's the earliest maple cap fretboard I've ever seen on a Jazz bass.

+Carlo Von Sexron Looks like a 70's neck with the bindings and the blocks.. Body could very well be a 60's body tho. But hey, if it sounds it good it sounds good right ;) Would NEVER mess with a '66 jazz bass but that's just my $0.02.
@namebrandmason
@namebrandmason 7 жыл бұрын
He didn't replace the neck, and it was probably quickie repair job in the seventies. At that time it would have been an old bass. Easy repair was part of the idea behind the bolt neck.

"Rig Rundowns" are nuts and bolts gear only. What you want is something totally different - go buy a copy of Guitar Player or Rolling Stone if you want the backstory. Rebecca is absolutely on-target asking about everything from the guitar/ amp and pedalboard to cables, picks, strings, and every other possible incidental. She doesn't usually miss anything.

I love rig rundowns, but it would be so much better if a bunch of pertinent questions were prepared before the interviews. Something other than "what kind of strings or picks do you use" which seems like the fall back questions when the guy has nothing more to say. What about asking them maybe less gear oriented questions, how did they become musician, what is different when playing on a TV show (in that case)... Also, finding a better solution than the hand mic would be a plus =)
