Let's hope the new slanted cab to be delivered tomorrow by UPS survives unscathed! I'm using a Line 6 HX effects in front of the amp. Great rig rundown but I feel like the guy interviewing could have focused more on the patches they are using in the quad cortex. Yes the tech said Dave was using a JCM800 patch. But what about the Cab model he is using, is it a stock cab in the cortex or a custom IR that goes to the PA? Also, ask more about Kiko’s cortex as well. What Friedman model? What cab model? What effects for the lead patches and what model are the using on the effects - like what brand/model? They are not really focusing that much on the sounds. Just saying we use a quad cortex basically. Kiko gave some good info but Dave’s tech didn’t really say much.
@premierguitar2 жыл бұрын
For their worldwide 2022 run, both guitarists were using the Quad Cortex. Kiko preferred relying on Friedman BE patches, where Dave stayed familiar with Marshall settings. I dig the Flying V custom but why would it need to be a Custom Shop as opposed to a USA ? I get Adam Jones, Greenie, and if they get James an Iron Cross and also if they get James a custom shop run of Kill Em All era Flying Vs would be very cool like Murphy Labs. With Dave not ever playing a Gibson or even a fake Gibson what would the Custom Shop do ? He’s not known for playing beat up guitars in fact he’s known to take really good care of his guitars most of his toured guitars are still mint when retired. I just don’t understand what the custom shop could offer with his name attached that would really mean anything. The guitar that instantly pops into my head when I think of Dave is the silver Jackson King V with the Kahler and then his BC Rich . Yeah Dave deserves the full treatment but I just can’t think of anything that the custom shop could do for him that would make a Megadeth fan pay 10k for something ? You can still find equipment he actually owned and toured for less than that .

The joke at the end about going to the moon with this was ironically funny. The compute power of the Apollo 11 mission was about the same used to control the knobs on the quad cortex. What they did with limited computer technology was amazing back in 69. Dude in 2022: what they do with guitar tones with modern technology is amazing. They finally managed to get computers to model cool amps made in teh 60's and 70's. Dude in 1969: we put a man on the moon with the aid of computer technology. Dude in 1962: we can launch a warhead at a target 6000 miles away with the Minuteman Missile and launch within minutes and hit a target within 600 yards. Just goes to show you how important guitar tone is to humanity *sarcasm*. It took 53 years from when man landed on the moon with the aid of computers as powerful as those that power your doorbell to those that could produce the same compute power as a high end PC that could control the infrastructure of a large city to produce a sound that sounds like an amp made back in the 60's. Yes, it took us 60 years to develop the compute technology to almost replicate amps from 60 years ago. How is this really an advancement? As an FYI, I have played guitar since 84 and have been a network engineer designing industrial control systems for a decade or two.
