Kiko has always been a great teacher, by the way, and I still remember when he showed up in my school for a workshop session more than 20 years ago. Totally blew my mind. He's always been known in Europe and Japan too due to Angra, but I'm glad he's finally getting the recognition he's always deserved in North America as well. Kiko was one of my first guitar heroes and Angra were the first band I ever travelled abroad from Ireland to see. It was Paris 2007, and when I was queuing outside the venue that afternoon Kiko and the band were entering, and stopped for autographs and photos. I asked Kiko if he could give me a guitar pick, but after checking his pockets he apologised and said he didn't. During the show, he saw me in the front row and handed me a pick which I treasure to this day. I'm so glad he is experiencing so much success with Megadeth. BTW No Gravity and Universo Inverso are KILLER solo guitar albums! 👌

I've seen him play live with Megadeth four times, each time he got closer and closer to playing how Marty wrote the notes........the part in this video interview where he says some thing like he doesn't play Marty's solos note per note is true, and I heard him play what he means when he says he does his own thing but makes it sound similar. I think the only people capable of playing Marty's solos note per note are Marty and Chris Broderick......... Broderick is a robot when it comes to him playing anybody's else's solos.

These guys talk a different language about music than this bluegrasser can really comprehend, but it is a beautiful language and wonderful to hear. The talent here is something to behold, something I would have never had a glimpse of, it weren’t for Rick Beato’s channel. Megadeth is so far off my radar, this would all be unknown to me. KZbin is magic. I’m so grateful to live in this era of accessibility to genius and superstardom at any time, at no cost, literally at the fingertips. Thank you!

Totally agree! Music is a universal language. That's my favorite thing about it. You can dive waaaay outside your normal style and come away with an appreciation for it. You might even be surprised how many metal fans love bluegrass or other styles!

Kiko is a living testimony that BENDS MATTER!. Among his fantastic playing abilities, the one that I enjoy the most is the tension and feeling of his bends and vibratos that take each of his solos to whole new levels. Stating that guitar is one of the very few instruments that allow this kind of expression is spot on.
@luisnunes3863
@luisnunes3863 10 ай бұрын
Sure. Bends got a bad reputation from a certain type of boomer guitarist bending the same string for half an hour and acting like that's some kind of awesome, other than awesomely poor taste. 😉😉 But a good vibrato is highly prized to this day in metal. Another master of vibratos and bends in metal is André Olbricht of Blind Guardian. You might want to check him out. Mirror, Mirror is a good start.

I've never really payed any attention to Kiko because I'm old school Megadeth. When he joined the band I was like "ok the 1000th new member" skip! But this video makes me want to find other stuff from him if there is some. Dave's music no longer does it for me like Peace Sells. So here's crossing fingers in hope there's other stuff I can find on this guy. Anyway, if I didn't make sense, well my only excuse is, I have been up for about 28 hrs, but I'm glad I'm still up or I wouldn't have bothered with this video uncle Rick. ty both.

If I may, he has solo instrumental albums that has a bit of everything when it comes to his influences, but if you're mostly into metal check the Angra stuff from his era. I'd really recommend it. I've been saying this FOREVER.... the UPSTROKE is the heaviest part of metal rhythm guitar. You miss so much when you downstroke for life. I used to catch so much flack at GIT (and still in the YT comments) from the metalheads for using upstrokes in rhythm parts.... but that's where the real sauce is. Not surprising that Mustaine made sure his players got that nuance.
