Kiko was one of my first guitar heroes and Angra were the first band I ever travelled abroad from Ireland to see. I asked Kiko if he could give me a guitar pick, but after checking his pockets he apologised and said he didn't. During the show, he saw me in the front row and handed me a pick which I treasure to this day. I'm so glad he is experiencing so much success with Megadeth. Kiko's left hand reminds me of an Olympic trained octopus. Octopi have an individual intelligence in each arm, and watching the quick, precise and strong dexterity of Kiko's left fingers (which seem a size bigger than an average person) was awe-inspiring - complete ownership of the frets was incredible. Watching him demonstrate his process, explore Brazilian musical culture with his utterly charming and unaffected personality was a real treat.

Kiko is a living testimony that BENDS MATTER!. Among his fantastic playing abilities, the one that I enjoy the most is the tension and feeling of his bends and vibratos that take each of his solos to whole new levels. Stating that guitar is one of the very few instruments that allow this kind of expression is spot on.
@luisnunes3863 Жыл бұрын
Sure. Bends got a bad reputation from a certain type of boomer guitarist bending the same string for half an hour and acting like that's some kind of awesome, other than awesomely poor taste. 😉😉 But a good vibrato is highly prized to this day in metal. Another master of vibratos and bends in metal is André Olbricht of Blind Guardian. You might want to check him out. Mirror, Mirror is a good start.

The exercise where he shows us to play without pushing down hard is so useful!! Too much tension can really harm your playing. So I'll he sure to add his exercise to my daily practice routine ! Thank you so much Kiko and Rick!! The information in this video is very useful!! 😊

Rick this is really one of your finest interviews, and, you are really evolving to a place where your style, vocabulary and approach is so obvious yet not in the way of a good discussion. On top of that, you let Kiko be himself and talk 80% of the entire video. I also have to say, what a lovely guy. The humility he projects is just really really good to see. And man, what a crazy talent he is. Well done sir.

You have some of the BEST interviews with some of the best artist. From Sting, Pat Metheney, Peter Frampton many others now Kiko. The way these artist just relax around you because of major respect for your ability to completely talk the same language. The best was the Sting interview for one major reason....When he started the interview, he seemed very "disinterested" but then you started asking questions and it was like, his entire body language changed and he opened. That is an amazing skill. Bravo Mr. Beato.

Knew him from name and some stuff….but this masterful guitar player simply blew my mind with his down to earth and authentic persona, simple and very respectful. It’s really refreshing to see artists like this. Makes you appreciate their talents even more. I never met Jeff Beck but l think Jeff is also on a same vibe like KiKo. Both are also unique masters! Now artists like Clapton for instance, although they are talented their massive ego makes me get away from their works/songs. I might be wrong but l also think that Hendrix and Page are also like Kiko. Thank you so much for this amazing interview Mr. Beato. As a guitar maniac lover…it’s always amazing to learn more and more! And Kiko if you read this, te desejo toda a boa sorte e sucesso e uma longa e próspera jornada como músico e ser humano! Muito obrigado!

Look into his previous band Angra. Almost as influential as Megadeth, though less well known. Absolute premier neoclassical metal.
