This guy is one of the most amazing men I've ever met. Doesn't speak a word of english out of context, but you can feel the spirit of ancient folk emanating from him.

This man was the best musician at the entire concert I went to last night. Lauri from Metsatöll is amazing! And a very friendly guy. He slayed the night, enchanting the audience with heavy metal, and was just chillin outside the venue afterward smoking his tobacco pipe and talking with folk. Shaking hands and whatnot. Very nice of him to come meet us.

Old video, but just came accross this. Little fun fact, parmupill is called doromb in Hungarian, and when the cat purrs we say "a macska dorombol" literally meaning the cat is playing the Jew's harp.

Now Lauri, it sounds more magnicifient to say that "toru" comes from the name of Estonian god Taara, which supposedly stems from Scandinavian Thor but when you look at the usual meaning and also etymology of the word, and translate it into English, it means "pipe". The other part of the word "-pill" means an instrument, so when you put the two words together it is translated as an "pipe instrument".
@meestelaul10 жыл бұрын
Hey! "toru" is a new word and surely is later connected with this instruments name with a meaning "tube/pipe". But of course, the instrument is way older than your, khm, straight and childish-simple, understanding of a word "pipe" or "toru" in 21. century. Older word for "pipe" in Estonia is "putki" (open pipe is "renn"), what is preserved in a plant name "putk". The german-english-swedish word "pipe" word comes instruments sound. Also, "Pill" older meaning is not just an "instrument", but a blowed instrument, a flute or something like it, word is connected to a sound of a blowed instrument. (as a word "pipe"). The other version could be (if not Taara), that name "toru" comes, as different bagpipes around, from the sound of that instrument. But this is not logical, cause this would lead us to the instrument name translation like "beeep-tooot" or something like it, as "toooot-flute" of "beep-instrument" would be possible.
