Rigging an RS Feva

Some points to remember when rigging. 1. When hoisting the main up; once you have reached the top, drop it down again about 200mm so it’s (tack) is below the the entry point on the the mast track, turn the boat away from the wind so the main is away from you (on the starboard side). This will allow you to flick the halyard into the cleat at the top of the mast. The sail is then not in the way when you lean over as far you can into the centre of the boat to then quickly re-hoist the last remaining 200mm back up and through that cleat at the top. Do this every time and that halyard will never pop out. 2. Don’t do what they have done and so many other people have also done! DON’T fill the Gennaker Chute up with tape. This is a MAJOR NO NO. LESS IS MORE! Less is more, you cannot tell me, (and we’ve experimented) that coating the Tack Bar and filling that entry point with hideous amounts of Duct Tape is better and smoother than what is already there……….it’s not! There are two major issues to be addressed. 2a. The bolts and plastic moulding on the top-side where the Tack Bar mounts to the upper part. This can be cover buy some good quality sail cloth(self adhesive) 2b. The very bottom of that crappy cheap black plastic moulding inside where it sits rather proud of the chute. 2c. Do not wrap tape around the Tack Bar like these people have. It’s stainless steel and very smooth, you’ve just made it worse 2d. Do not wrap tape all around the inside of the chute and around the front. The biggest problems stem from the helm not soaking down enough and allowing the Gennaker to go slack. Too many sailors are coming in too hot to the bottom mark and continuing to load up the Gennaker which makes it very difficult to pull in. It’s a cheap and nasty design in the first place finnished off with some third world moulded plastic. 3. The beach trolley has been designed badly, place a PFD under the boat at the front cross member to lift it up enough so you can hoist the Gennaker and allow the Prodder to come out over the trailer to ALWAYS check that it’s rigged correctly. We put extra clear tubing on that front cross bar which elevates the boat up.
