Holy cow, oregon inlet. Thats a dangerous bar even in condittons that make other inlets ok. A good back up to rigging is to have an extra oversized halyard, preferably dynemma which is stronger than steel.. you van use it with an extra block and tackle on a winch to secure any standing rigging. In good conditions and the stay made taught you can even fly smaller jibs to help out with speed. Good find and better yet in good seas

Rigging a motor mount for your 30hp honda would help in these situations. I realize lowering that big motor and mounting it would be a challenge at sea, but I think Beau is up for it. Better than that generator, and very powerful in case of currents or headwinds.

Beau built a giant sawhorse to take down, and re-step his mast. He has from what i can see of the all the sailing channels that I watch, the best solar and battery system without a bunch of continuous changes. A well mounted bracket that is topped by a set of guide rails could easily be designed and installed in the water. Think of an engine bracket board that can be safely guided down to mate with a permanent base as low as it needs to be. the guide rails could be removable and only installed when lowering the motor. It would also reduce the stress and danger of raising the outboard each time. Beau has the engineering chops to work this out. I was excited to see them doing the side tie tow. I used to do that all the time to boats much bigger than theirs. Water has to be real calm and one person must be in the dinghy, so it is not the best solution for blasting off a lee shore, or fighting a big current like the Piscataqua river or even the Cape Cod Canal. @@John-Nada

Nice channel. Too many youtubers end up sitting there pointing the camera at their faces and talking about what they are going to do. Kind of defeats the purpose of video, that is for radio. You take us on the journey. What a nice relief. Do what needs doing, sometimes voice over to explain but while we are watching what is being done. Pointing a camera at one's face and discussing some action is not compelling for some of us like therapy or something. I'll keep watching.

Also, people have sailed around the world in boats that size and smaller. I believe it is the same boat as SV UMA. And Kika and Dan took their boat all the way up to Svalbard. They do have a slightly more powerful electric motor though. These guys could use their dinghy to power the boat into the inlet if they needed to. When UMA had the same type of motor they often used the dinghy to power the boat.

Sailboats need to be above a certain longitude or below a southern one to avoid hurricane season. Although I believe they are self-insured, it is still a good idea to follow that rule of thumb. Florida is probably the worst place to be during hurricane season, and Grenada and the south were too far to travel. Once in the States, you have to head north. Still a threat, but a lot less of one. Although, down here in the South we had a fairly light season compared to most. I remember one hitting us. I believe they did go to Annapolis too, but anyone along the East Coast heads north of the cruisers. Hard-core Floridians don't blink at hurricanes.

The ideal boat engine I think would be a good diesel engine gen set , decent battery bank and an electric engine . That way most of the time for short times you can use electric and battery , you can charge if need be and you can get the range of a diesel buy running it to power the electric motor , mind you the electric should be able to hit hull speed .

@@BeauAndBrandy It always surprises me Cats like Lagoons are not like that . Buddy had a 450 with Two gen sets and two engines , too much to maintain . 2 electric sail drives and one gen set would have been so more simple . Two gen sets were because he added AC and needed more power . the boat was factory with 3 engines . The other nice things is the gen set can be located in a better spot getting weight out of the ends and the electric sail drives could do regen . On top you could also do an electric stove and oven tossing the propane as well .
