Wow, that is a really awesome boat! I feel as if the previous owner took good care of it. It is amazing to be able to get out on such a light budget, and with a lot of style.

Jacob has the proper demeaner to become a terrific sailor and the Tartan 34 is a terrific sailing boat. I've never been a fan of the Atomic 4 or centerboards, but grew up with both and am currently sailing a centerboard. It's all about the sailing adventure and a learning experience that can last a lifetime ... 74 years and many miles under my keel. Fair winds.

He definitely picked a great boat to start out with.

The flange that connects the 1st section of pipe to the engine is easily removed. Using a hacksaw cut into the pipe from inside the pipe. Clean and reuse the flange and replace the pipe sections with a trip to HD

The old Atomic 4, like mentioned it's the most loved and hated of boat motors. From what I have seen the only real issue with them is very few people know how to work on them. I wish you could be in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on Friday. It will be the maiden voyage for my new to me Endurance 35.

Ok, I have a Tartan 37 now, love it. So funny when he says "its a little boat" Lived aboard a 25', 30'. Less $ for sails, dockage, et al. Keep it simple. (and all my previous boats had an Atomic 4, again simple) Always enjoy your videos. Be well.

He was talking about moving up to a bigger boat and I was trying to talk him out of it. I have a friend with a sister ship to this one and he sails back and forth to Bermuda all the time! This is a stout boat :)

@@RiggingDoctor Absolutely. My previous boat, Pearson Vanguard is at the same club, gets very little attention/use, I should have kept it as I literally gave it away. Tartans/CapeDory/ et al well done (not mentioning the poor boats) Hope he enjoys sailing it.

Beautiful video of the CBB! Good luck with the sailboat. Boat problems are just a thing - glad you were almost back at the dock before it got bad.

Very good. Make a temp repair jb weld and wrap with heat tape. Check liquid levels top off. Run your motor at ideal for 45 min to an hour. See how that works out. If all good make the permanent repair. Great job to you both.

Nice boat! I recognized that marina at the beginning of the video. I had my boat there last summer. It has great prices on diesel. Liberty Marina in Edgewater, MD. I'm currently across the river at the other marina.

Keeper of a boat, could live on it for a lifetime. One drawback of Tartan design is very long shaft due to placement of engine so need a lot of zincs and regular underwater shaft cleaning. Also water tank is quite small compared to others in this size. Otherwise great and lots of natural wood. Pick Tartan over Benateau any day.

Sweet he'll enjoy . Exhaust issues. We should all be so lucky if that's it. Which never happens . Angus

Own a Tartan 34C. Love the Boat. The previous owner treated the Atomic 4 like it was his baby. I did not care for it and replaced it with a Beta Marine. That was the correct choice for me. But to each their own. Happy Sailing.

Captain Q always mentioned them ...he grew up with them and he said they were fine. The only recomendation was they should be fitted with a fan to blow the engine clear for a few 30 or so seconds before turning the starter. Not sure but i think Tartans a UK build.

@@tartansailor My bad sorry....I mixed them up with the Westerly s .. only realised in the wee small hours. The lines are very similar to many period, smaller GRP Yatchs. There's an electric conversion featured in 🇬🇧 PBO ... They used a pod motor even crossed the Channel in it and crossed to the Chanel islands. Just folding solar panels added and batteries ...in place of the old Single cylinder diesel and the fuel.

There are temporary channels that are open. You have to radio the CG and they will tell you what time and how to proceed

sounds and looked like she overheated (temp guage might not be working?)... had just enough cooling when underway then lost the water flow/cooling when you slowed.... 2 cents, no charge ! :)) Enjoy and fix er for another round :))

It was actually a very rusty raiser where the back pressure was great enough to push a hole through the rust and the wet exhaust was spraying out of the pipe. Jacob fixed it by replacing the rusty galvanized pipes with proper stainless steel pipes.

If I come across an Atomic 4, I expect a ruined raw water cooling jacket. Hook up a radiator, like a car, complete with Prestone. A completely rukned motor? Parts it into a box, and I own a brand new air cooled Chinese Diesel. Undersized, light, no problems.

Ask your mate if he wants to cross the Pacific James from sailing Tritaia has justbdone ot on his 32ft Alberg.. 👍🏼 It would be a very easy boat to electrify and power it from a small generator and battery bank.
