Arlington National Cemetery was taken as war reparations for the Civil War. It was started as a cemetery so that the Lee family would never move back in. They say that the first graves were in Lee's wife's rose garden.

There are over 600,000 heroes of our wars buried there. It was the ancestral home of Confederate General Robert E Lee. The estate home, Custus-Lee mansion, is still there. There are other nationally important people buried there including President John Kennedy and his brother Robert. Military burials happen there every day with full honors. The only pre requesite for most is having received the Purple 💜 Heart Medal for wounds received in military action. I have one boyhood friend that is buried there.

I am American, and I can't fathom the courage and sacrifice of our military men and women and those who love them at home. I hope you get to visit Arlington, see the graves, visit the Tomb of the Unknown soldier, learn of the story of how Robert E. Lee's home and land were taken from him to create the cemetery. It is a gut-punch reminder that Freedom is not Free, and the price paid is worthy of our deepest respect, honor, and gratitude.

What I have Always Like about Trace with his tribute Songs is that he tells them with the POV of the Solider putting you through how they are feeling or dealing with. Trace has always been very much with our Military as well as making sure those that fought in our Civil War are never forrgoten. Trace wants the soldiers who fought to never be forgotten no matter which side/color they wore in the Civil War. Again Thank you so much for the Respect you show when watching tribute videos. You have so much more respect then some of my fellow Americans.

Hi ReckyJ. Yes, it’s a tough song to hear. After all these years of listening to it and I know it by heart, I still tear up. As you probably realized Arlington Cemetery is where the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is at also. Trace sings this from the point of view of the soldier who has passed away and I think that makes it even more poignant. Your respect for soldiers is heartwarming. Trace is a 100 % county music legend. If you like Blake Shelton, Toby Keith or real country music you will love Trace’s music.

I went to Arlington National Cemetary years ago and the ground there is truly sacred. As I walked through aisles and aisles of graves. I was overcome with emotion. As far as you can see, it extends with the graves af people who have lost their lives to keep not only American , but other countries free. It is literally a reverent place. The tomb of the unknown soldier is also sacred. I thank God that I'm free and that so many through out the world enjoy freedom because of those brave "chosen" ones.

A very moving reaction for me, and well done Recky. I served for 30 years in the US military, and have lived close enough to walk to the Arlington National Cemetery, and have family members interred there, and every time I visited, I felt as if I was on sacred ground. In my first military assignment, I served as a funeral detail officer for all veterans in the state where I was stationed. It was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. After the flag draped over the deceased veteran's coffin was folded by our detail, I was the one designated to present it to the grieving widow (the current vernacular would be the "surviving spouse" or "next of kin," but for me, in every instance, it was a grieving widow). In every case, they were very grateful for the respect we demonstrated to their departed veteran--but not only were we gratified to do so, we were honored to do so, and we strove to excel in the honors we presented, and we always succeeded--we were spectacular. If I had not succeeded in anything else in my career, that would have been enough.

Isn't it such a strange feeling when you almost suddenly become more grounded due to a gain in perspective you had? I find that visiting old battlefields and National or Military Cemeteries are the most grounding due to the brute force with which they deliver that perspective. They remind you that the freedoms we enjoy were written with the blood of those who stepped into the breach, knowing full well the risks they were taking. The provided perspective pulls back the curtain on many of our day-to-day struggles and reveals them to be farces derived from our petty bs. It puts the real struggles into crystalline focus. If you ever get the chance, the beaches, battlefields, and cemeteries of Normandy are incredibly emotional to visit. As a Canadian, it took me 4 hours to walk through the Bény-sur-Mer Cemetery. I cried tears of thanks and sat, before leaving a coin (penny) at each grave I visited. That was the most cathartic experience I have ever had.

Arlington has an interesting back story as well. It was established by President Lincoln during the Civil War. General Robert E. Lee's wife's family originally owned the property, where the Lees lived before the war. It does overlook Washington DC. Lincoln instructed soldiers who died in the war to be buried there at the front door of the General of the confederacy that lead an army in revolt. After the war, the land was seized by the government and turned into a national cemetery. There are a few great videos on the history there and the tomb of the unknown soldiers.

Thank you for your ‘reaction’... I do appreciate learning about other cultures and societies. I recently watched a video entitled “I was Only 19” - I think it was about Australia (or maybe New Zealand)? It made me ‘Feel’ and brought tears to my eyes. There are things in other societies that are worth venerating! So, Thank You! About Arlington; you may know (or not) about it’s origin... If you don’t let me tell you about something I read a few years back... Arlington was the Plantation belonging to Robert E. Lee. He refused President Lincoln’s offer of command of the Union Army at the beginning of the Civil War (1860-1865). One of President Lincoln’s Cabinet Secretaries had ‘Lost a Son’ near the beginning of the war. He blamed General Lee for the death of his son. Therefore, he chose to take his Plantation in return for General Lee’s choice to command the ‘Forces of Secession’... but he realized that after the war there might be a drive to ‘forgive and forget’ so to preclude him (General Lee) from ever taking back his land, he decided to make a National Cemetery out of it. - Arlington.... Yes, it is both Sad and at the same time, something to Honor...

If want a good love story song that is a hidden gem. It's called GO BACK by Charlie Tennison. She is a great singer that unfortunately never hit it big. But as a professional truck driver this makes me think of my family everytime I hear it

Recky, thank you for your heartfelt reaction to this song & your respect for our fallen heroes! Trace Atkins is one of our most patriotic country singers (along with Toby Keith, Lee Greenwood & Home Free). My older son has been in the music business since he was 17 & in Nashville, TN for 22 years so I've met & talked to Trace (& many others). I'm 5 feet tall. Trace is about 7 feet tall in his boots so I felt like a "munchkin"! I'm naming you an honorary American!😊🇺🇸 🇸🇪

Hi Recky J, thanks for taking the time for this reaction. As someone else said, consider reacting to the Tomb of the Unknow Soldier, and to the changing of the guard of The Tomb of the Unknows. Those are very special to those of us who have served. God bless, Rob

Few things harder than listening to taps, the gun shots and receiving the flag of someone you love. My granddad died at an ripe old age, after serving in WWI. It was still hard and he's not at Arlington, luckily in my home state.

Thank you for your respect to our fallen warriors. Arlington is truly sacred ground to us. Coming from a VERY long line of family that is or was in the U.S. military these songs are very important to us! All military veterans deserve our love, thanks and respect !

Thanks Recky. I don't listen to alot of music any more and , until now, never heard the song. It brought tears to my eyes. I have been to Arlington National Cemetery a few times over the years (from the west coast). It is always an emotional experience. You must visit if ever in the D.C. area, as well as the Tomb of the Unknowns. Then there is the giant monument, showing the Marines raising the american flag on the summit of Mt. Suribachi on the island of Iwo Jima during World War II, that is just outside of the cemetery.

I think, as an American and a vet. I think the best thank you there is, is to live free! And on occasion, remember those fought for the freedom we all share. That's really all that is needed. For those to remember.

Another beautiful, heartfelt reaction, and I thank you for doing the song Arlington. Yes, Arlington is a cemetery in Virginia, and there are graves of a few Presidents, other government officials, some members from the Challenger and Columbia space shuttle disasters, and Audie Murphy (most decorated soldier of WW2), along with so many others that I call heros. I've been to Arlington, and the site of approximately 400,000 graves touches me deep my soul. Yes, I cried when I was there. May all those who now lie there Rest in Peace.

Arlington National Cemetery is located in Arlington, VA. It is in northern Virginia near Washington, DC. The land was once owned by General Robert E. Lee who was the commanding General of the Army of Northern Virginia for the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. The land was confiscated by the Union army and turned into a National Cemetery where war heroes, US Presidents and other notable American people are laid to rest. They have a great website where you can explore some of the people buried there including President John F. Kennedy, and a few people from other countries.
