My dad was a Marine. My brother too. I was in the Army and served during Desert Shield/Storm. My brother was killed in a terrorist attack, and is buried at Arlington. It is a peaceful, beautiful place, but the thousands of white crosses are heartbreaking. RIP Billy.

My grandfather fought in WWII at Iwo Jima. He passed away 20 years ago and was offered interment at Arlington as he made preparations for his passing a few weeks before, but he chose to be by his wife, my grandmother, who preceded him in death by a few years. I know how much Arlington means, but it was also really inspiring to hear him say he just wanted to lay beside the only woman he ever loved for all eternity. No one even thought to try and talk him out of it. He still had an amazing service, God bless the active duty Marines who came to honor him.

My brother, John, was a door gunner on a helicopter in the Vietnam war. His helicopter crew saved six men from an Air Force C1 30, that went down an enemy territory. He was not recognized for the heroism at the time, but received the Silver Star, 45 years to the day after the rescue. He will be buried in Arlington Cemetery. Only the highest decorated soldiers go to Arlington.

My grandpa, who passed in 2014, served in the Vietnam while in the Army, Panama, Desert Storm and Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti while in the National Guard, and as a civilian contractor he went to Iraq and Kuwait. He was also Purple Heart recipient(meaning he was wounded in combat for those who aren't American or don't know) from his time in Vietnam. Because of his service he is buried at Arlington. I went with my family and saw the ceremony, he got the 21 gun salute and everything. We also saw the Tomb of the Unknown soldier, my family saw the changing of the guard, I was sick that day so I didn't. It was a bittersweet trip for the lack of a better term. Miss you Papa.

My son served in Iraq and has a dear friend buried in Arlington Cemetery. My dad served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and is buried in Dallas/Fort Worth Cemetery. So much respect shown to all who lie in both places. If you get the chance, read or watch about the military members who guard the Tomb of the Unknowns. They embody respect and nothing will deter them from guarding this sacred place. If you come to the US and can do so, I encourage you to go to Arlington Cemetery. It is the most peaceful place I have ever been.

I had the amazing honor to witness the 21 gun salute and keep a few bullet casings after my grandpa passed, who was enlisted during the Vietnam war. On the way to Jefferson Barracks memorial cemetery, a group of bikers pulled off on the side of the road to give my grandfather his last salute. It still brings tears to my eyes thinking about that whole experience. And the flag folding ceremony, when the flag was given to my father(the Oldest Child). That flag is the first thing you see while entering our house. Thank you to evey service member who has fought and sacrificed something so we can live in peace and freedom!!!

Last year my uncle died...20 years USMC Korea and Vietnam combat veteran. He was 89 years old and buried at Arlington. This song always got to me but, as weird as it might sound, I can smile a bit because of the line "best of company"...I completely agree.

I've been there many times over the years. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is really something to behold. My brother, my mom's best friend (that I was named after), my 2 uncles, and 19 of my Daddy's good buddies (including his best friend, his hunting partner, and his bunk mate) are there (all died together). 💔😔 Daddy passed in 2021 at 90 yrs old. He had a place saved in Arlington if desired, but they're low on space these days so Momma couldn't be placed there with him. We decided to put them at rest together in one of the many beautiful National Cemeteries they have across the country now; they're like smaller versions of Arlington. Daddy was given full military honors including the flag folding detail, 21-gun salute, and bugler playing Taps. It was a beautiful ceremony. Momma followed him in Feb 2023 and we were able to have her ashes interred in the same plot. Her info is on the other side of Daddy's headstone. They'd been together since they were 15 & 16 yrs old. Married for 70 of those years! They're together again now & forever. 💞

Laying wreaths at Christmas is such an honor. Laid several. Went across the grounds to be sure my boss' father-in-law got one. Already had one, so laid the wreath on the soldier to the left. Sent a pic of the FIL's headstone and wreath to the boss. Said they'd be sure to see it when they came to visit. Then said they'd acknowledge the one to the left as well. Respect.

I have been to Arlington Cemetery twice and saw The Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I cried both times! So many white crosses that cover acres of ground reminded me that so many died for my freedom, and that Freedom isn't free and comes with a cost. I am proud to be an American!

Interesting fact that not a lot of people know about Arlington Cemetery. Before there was a cemetery, Arlington House was where General Lee (confederate general) lived. During the civil war, he used his house as a Confederate command post. After the North won the war, Lee surrendered to the North, and it was decided (not sure by who) to bury the dead soldiers of the war on Lee’s property so Lee wouldn’t live there anymore. That was the birth of Arlington Cemetery.

Actually, Arlington was confiscated buy the union. Years later they had to reimburse the Lee family.

Do you honestly believe the Confederate military command post was only a mile or two from the Union capital? The house and lands were occupied by *Union* troops. As a punishment for Confederates the US Government imposed a special property tax. Which had to be paid *in person*, during the war itself. At the time, the property belonged to Mary Custis Lee (not Robert, but his mother), who had abandoned the house after her nephew warned her Union troops were coming to seize it. Mary Lee was elderly and infirm, certainly in no shape to cross the combat lines to pay the tax, so the government bought it at a tax auction. It was not until 70 or so years later the courts compelled the government to compensate the Lee family fully for taking the property since they occupied it *before* buying it. Which effectively meant Mary Lee had been forced to quarter soldiers in her home (even though she wasn't there) and that is unconstitutional.

My father was a World War II veteran who served the United States Armed Forces in the Far East (USAFFE). He survived the Bataan Death March in the Philippines. Although he was buried at Santa Fe Veteran's Cemetery, his name is included in the Pacific Veterans Wall at Arlington National Cemetery. When we immigrated to the US, my brother and I served in the US Navy and my sister served in the US Air Force. Both my sons and two nephews served in the US Navy, a niece served as an officer in the US Army, and another nephew served in the US Air Force. Serving was our way of thanking and giving back to this great country who welcomed us in her arms.

I live in Indianapolis which is home to Crown Hill Cemetery which is one of the largest cemeteries in the country and has a huge military section dating back to before the civil war. It is very moving seeing all those soldiers. I will get to Arlington one day. It’s on my bucket list.

My stepfather is buried at Arlington. Shortly after I made OTM2, I made a special trip to visit him. I went in my dress blues and carried my share of the spent rounds from his salute when he was buried there. I showed him his troublemaker stepdaugter had learned lessons he had tried to teach me and was following in his footsteps.

Everyone should visit Arlington. The rows and rows of white markers is so moving. Beautifully sad but makes your heart swell with pride. My grandfather rested in a foreign grave in France for about 5 years until he was exhumed and brought home to Texas. He was killed in WW2. All the graves on foreign lands, graves at sea, graves in family plots and military cemeteries and there is Arlington. It's mind boggling and very humbling, the sacrifices made for our Freedom. All gave some, but some gave all.

I just recently went to Arlington, I have always wanted to go. When we were there our tour had to stop because they were just welcoming home a soldier who had given their all for our freedom. It was a very somber yet proud moment. Just being able to be there and witness this and to send my own prayers and words of gratitude for their selflessness was something I will never forget.Arlington is a place you would not regret going to. I am in awe at how spiritual this place is and I am forever grateful for each and every person buried there for their selfless acts of bravery and love for their country and its people. We were there again last summer, and it never fails to be an emotional experience. My dad bought in WW2. but we were blessed because he came home. I love Trace, and he often sings at the annual Memorial Day concert in Washington. He has a couple more you should hear. I think one is called The Empty Chair(?). We took our daughter when she was 6. We were at the Tomb of the Unknow during a wreath ceremony. Everyone was asked to silent and a group behind us was talking be loud. My little girl turned around with her finger on her lips. Soldiers came and removed the group and told my daughter how proud they were of her.

Wow. That was a tough one. I had the privilege of visiting Arlington when at age 15. Even at that young age it was very moving.

This song always gets me in the heart because it was released the week one of my best friends was killed in Afghanistan so it hold a special place for me and my friends .

I have been to Washington DC and have been to Arlington Cemetery, and I am glad that you respect our fallen soldiers .I respect your countries sacrifices for our world to have the freedom that we have today. ❤

I'm a Navy vet--wow, I teared up for sure. My family is full of vets, but none buried here. I hate when I hear the 21 gun salute. When they play TAPS==I can't take it--I break down. Love your reaction. The fact you appreciate this more than most Americans now is muchly appreciated. Thank you.

I have an uncle (WW II) and another family member (Vietnam) who are buried in Arlington along with my neighbor's son (gulf), and being a veteran myself it hits home hard when I go and visit them.

Recky & Carol... I so much appreciate your sincere reactions t our patriotism, lost lives and the manner in which we honor them. It would be nice to see some of GB's similar recognitions. Seeing you wipe away your tears tugged at my heart strings...it saddens me though...that not all American's show this kind of respect. Peace & Blessings!!

Thank you so much, I lost many friends in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's nice to see even a non-American appreciate the sacrifices. We don't get to choose the wars we fight. Politicians do, we just fight proudly for the men next to us, so we can make it home. I lost an eye myself and over 37 wounds from an IED. Lost several friends too. Thank you very much 🙏.
