I arrived in the UK in the autumn of 1991 and all the shops had tshirts with “I’m too sexy” written on it, and I didn’t understand! I used to wear a Stetson, like Indiana Jones, and would jokingly sing to my friends, "I'm too sexy for my hat, what do you think about that!", in the same tone as the singer. But, that's the only line I knew accurately. For the rest, I just had the right sound and whatever "almost right" words I could fill in. You really can fill in whatever you want, and it makes just as much sense.

Your face was just so classic! Considering when this song was released (1991) it was considered to be very risque in the day and I think my country (South Africa) even banned it for a while. The origin came from when the brothers owned a gym and watched how people would be so egotistical & vain by constantly posing in the mirrors at the gym.

My son dated a 15 year old model ( really ) when he was 17, and this was her favorite song. Without her model clothes and make-up, she looked like a sweet kid, but when she was on the cat-walk, she looked like a beautiful woman of 25. Really. She went to Japan to participate in a modelling job. So when I hear this song, I think of her. She loved it. 15 going on 35.

right said fred are from australia. and here is a super obscure fact about this song: the instrumental break of this song grabs a riff from the jimi hendrix song, 3rd stone from the sun. from the 1st album. one of jimi's least played and yet most greatly loved by his fans and esp. guitar players. this funky and yet fully silly terrestrial song about models on the catwalk makes reference to one of the coolest, spaciest hendrix songs ever. "there will never be surf music again." keep them coming. if you really want to fly sideways, tryout some music by snakefinger, a guitarist and songwriter.

This song was a parody. Not a "Weird Al" style parody, but rather just being satirical and mocking all the very full-of-themselves model and musician types that were starting the "famous for being famous" trend in the early 90s. It is absolutely NOT meant to be taken seriously, just something to have some fun with.
