1:11 as a new driver, I never learned about “pre-turning” during a right turn at an intersection.

Hello! Pre-turning the wheel slightly, just about a quarter turn, helps you make a smoother and more controlled right turn, allowing you to finish on the right side of the road without oversteering. This small adjustment is also helpful when you need to 'inch out' for a better view of traffic, as it lets you do so safely without moving into the traffic lane.

@@DriversEdDirect can you make another video where you go more in-depth about this? Perhaps showing how doing versus not doing pre-turns looks like?

If you are waiting to turn right and did not pre-turn, if you get hit hard by a car behind you, you can be pushed straight smack into the middle of intersection and are susceptible to be hit by cars coming from the left side AND from the right side. If you did your pre-turn and get hit from behind while waiting, you will be pushed into your turning lane; you are still susceptible to be hit by cars coming from the left side, but NOT by cars from the right side. On contrary, when turning left, you want to keep your steering wheel straight so that if you get hit from behind, you just move forward; if you pre-turn to the left and get hit from behind, you can hit incoming traffic or get hit by incoming traffic going in the straight opposite direction.

Excellent instructions. I just wish that I could hear the instructors. They speak very softly.

Is that not crossing your hands? It’s automatic fail in canada
@DriversEdDirectАй бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for your comment! 👋 You’re right-hand-over-hand steering is not recommended in some places, like Canada, and rules can vary depending on the province or examiner. It’s always smart to check the specific guidelines for your area. At Drivers Ed Direct, we teach both push-pull steering and hand-over-hand steering to ensure our students are prepared for all driving situations. While push-pull is often preferred for smooth, everyday driving, hand-over-hand steering can be particularly helpful in: 1. Sharp Turns: It provides faster wheel movement for making tight turns, like on narrow streets or sharp corners. 2. Skid Recovery: Hand-over-hand can help you quickly regain control if your vehicle starts skidding. 3. Emergency Maneuvers: In sudden, unexpected situations, this method allows for quicker and more precise steering adjustments. Ultimately, it’s about choosing the technique that gives you the best control of the vehicle in a given scenario. Knowing how to use both methods will make you a safer, more confident driver-no matter where you’re driving!
