I agree with your way of germinating fruit trees. I tried various fruit trees indoor and seeds were germinated according buttheseedlings were weak. But when I tried direct sowing and after the the winter when temperature started to rise in spring, very healthy and strong seedlings came out. In this process it may take time but end result is quite satisfactory.

Oké, so let me get this straight, I don't take of the shell, put in in a pot with soil and leave it outside until spring? Thnx for this info ❤

Put 3-4 pits per 6 inch pot( 15 cms) filled with soil and leave out doors. Do several pots with pits from different peaches and nectarines. - Dr. Evans

What do you mean by grafting? Grafting it to what? I’m not sure I understand. Please explain.
@justinpasula28862 жыл бұрын
You take scion wood from the fruit tree that you want to propagate and fuze it onto rootstock that is hardy in your area and compatible. For example, you can add a nice-tasting apple to a Siberian crab apple rootstock.

In my experience, if the seeds came from a hybrid, they will revert back to a parent genome. Heirloom seeds stay true for the most part, but cross-pollination can switch up the next generation seed genetics.

Do container seedlings and young plants should be kept indoors during winter? when would they be able to survive winter outdoors?
@GoldStrawMedia Жыл бұрын
Container woody fruit seedlings should never be kept indoors unless you own a cold greenhouse if they are intended to be grown out doors. Seedlings should be germinated outdoors and kept out doors. When its fall any container seedlings that you have should be planted deep into garden soil so that the top of the container is 3-4 inches below the soil surface for cold protection in cold winters The plant out from these containers ASAP in the spring. - Dr. Evans

You don't need to break the plum hard shell seed open?

It actually works like that in nature so we wanted to put a video out different than all the pit cracking ones showing this.

Well If you have place you can discover new varieties. Today's varieties are accidents and Luck. If you have place perhaps grow 20 to 30 trees and see what comes.

Natural selection is a wonderful process to implement. We use this often.

And where do you think varieties you are grafting originated from? Thin air? Some people are actually interested in breeding new varieties as crazy as that seems... kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXKpeWB_lsusqbM

Yeah I'm getting really annoyed with all these "You can't grow X from seed!" naysayers. Yes, of course if you want a Cripps Pink apple crop you're going to have to find Cripps Pink budwood and graft if to something. But that isn't what everybody wants. Some people want the excitement of not knowing what they'll get, but knowing it'll be something novel. BITE ME! is named for exactly these naysayers who think their goals in fruit growing should be everybody's goals.
@bpj18055 ай бұрын
I'll continue growing fruit trees from seed whether you think it's "nonsense" or not. Don't project your own goals in fruit growing onto everyone else. Some of us have different goals.

If for example, cantaloupe is not true to seed, then how do they sell cantaloupe seeds that grow true to seed? Also, why are u even showing that you plant non True to Seed fruit trees, then graft onto them when you should be showing how to get cuttings to ROOT then plant those cuttings? Show us how to root from cuttings the best ways. Thanks for this video.
@GoldStrawMedia2 жыл бұрын
Cantaloupes and melons are self pollinating. If you grow only one cantaloupe it will produce both male and female flowers and bees will carry the pollen from the male to the female flower. The genetics remain stable. For example all wheat and barley plants are self pollinated before the flowers open. All corn plants must be cross pollinated with specific male and female lines and the seed is referred to as hybrid corn. - Dr. Evans

This video was nonsense. How did our ancestors come to love apples, pears, and plums? Didn't they plant the seeds from these fruits?

I agree

The wild fruits are still edible but they need preparation to make them taste good. Prunus trees, espeacially peaches, nectarines and apricots, are generally more viable when you grow them from seed, because they will still have some resamblence to their parents, unlike apples or pears.
@toneenorman2135Ай бұрын
@@husch05Do you know if the Santa Rosa plum grows true to the parent? I have two little trees growing under the very old parent tree. I’m hoping they can take over when the old ones dies. Thank you!
