We call them right-wing because they sought (albeit through far more extreme measures than most conservatives) to maintain a more traditional society in their country: practically the definition of conservatism. Accept that your side can be just as extreme as the left, but that it doesn’t mean all conservatives are like that. Extremism is bi-partisan.

With the 2nd republic, Spain was the 10th largest economy. With Franco and its autarquic policies, it went to 40th. Later on, due to his economic failures, others convinced him of opening up. DUring th 60s there was so much unemployment that lots of Spaniards emigrated to North Europe. Sure it improved then, bc it was so bad before! For which he was responsible. Lots of intellectuals fled the country or were killed, lots of good brains lost with him, not to mention female brains. He was terrible for the economy, not great. The real growth happened in the 80s and 90s.
