If you want to get to the root of why Putin came to power, devote a full episode to what happened during the 1990s across the former Soviet Union. I lived and worked there during that time and it was a deadly anarchy. There's a reason regular people got behind him. They saw what the alternative looked like. Psychologically it is very difficult to let go of power. Its Like being the first to lower your gun in a standoff. If Putin were to give up power completely there would almost certainly be a civil war. If he were to loosen the reigns of power he would be overthrown and Russia would fall into civil war.

There is also things like mining - extraction industries - beyond that - what economy are you referring to ? Russia does not have a significant economy in terms of supporting its population or its land size. It currently has the 11th largest economy in the world. Russia has real problems as it relates to economic development - and perhaps its biggest impediment is its legal system. If you are really going to develop economically - serious investment has to be assured that contracts are enforceable - rule by gun, assassination or the infamous Russian window cancer - are not going to stimulate the type of investment, entrepreneurial development necessary for a thriving economic activity .

It's fascinating how Putin, once barely known, has come to hold such an untouchable position. The part that really grabs your attention is the exploration into Putin's mind. You get to peek behind the curtain at what drives him, how he thinks, and the moves he's made to stay at the top. It's like unpacking the layers of a very complex character who's had a massive impact on global politics. For anyone curious about the forces that shape our world, this video is a goldmine. Also of the millions of people and many countries that have become victims of American new imperialism. Awaiting your such documentaries!
@ericwillis7777 ай бұрын
User- eg7ex - very true, but what you miss is that America and Europe gave up empire building and genocides for liberal democracy in the 19 th and 20 centuries - Russia hasn't moved forward at all, they are thus still culturally backward, and, in fact, living in a medieval world, of autocracy, violence, and kleptocracy, and the ordinary people are still serfs kept happy with propaganda and aspirations of a " greatness" they cannot achieve by simply killing everyone, including their own people.
@mickeybee6 ай бұрын
It would also be interesting to make a documentary about millions saved/countries and peoples' dramatically improved during colonisation. Obviously, you would have to divide it by who is the colonising nation - but nonetheless, it would be very interesting, and would completely change the current narrative about empire, especially the British Empire. For example, on the British Empire's episode, the numbers of lives saved due to the British Empires introduction of modern science, medicine, infrastructure, rule-of-law etc. to the nations it colonised, led directly to a massive decrease in mortality, a huge increase in lifespan, and huge domestic population growths. Just look at the Indian population growth during the Raj! Look at the suppression of certain diseases. Look at the abolishment of cultural practices like killing wives when their husbands died..... So yeah, I'd be very interested in a documentary like that too...
@ebucheery6 ай бұрын

If you are trying to say colonization was bad then it was like the curate's egg. However that was in the past, after WW2 the united Nations generally agreed that colonization was no longer acceptable, but here you are, confusing past and present, to, despite your denial, justify Russia's invasion of Ukraine. If there is any historical comparison to be made it is that Russia is trying to turn the clock back to a medieval period dominated by kings, and barons, greed and avarice, cruelty and violence, serfs and overseers, death and bloodshed, ignorance and superstition, - do you realy want to go back there ? Metempsychosis is an attractive philosophy, until, that is, you wake up and find it's true, and you have returned, not as a hansome prince or beautiful princess, but as a filthy serf, mercilessly flogged, and working a treadmill 20 hours a day until you expire. I was born in Poland, my father was in Solidarność and Polish people don't have many reasons to like Russians, but let's get a check on reality .... . . . Putin didn't grab power, he was placed into position of power by let's-have-a-drink Yeltsin who was the president at that time and was failing in his duties while Russia was falling apart. Right now Russia is #4 largest economy in the world. Considering that Russia's debt was not forgiven the way Poland's debt was erased (look of Jeffrey Sachs), and considering the utter ecomic and political chaos in the 1990's, that is an amazing achievement. . . I'm saying this not being a fan of CCCP but looking at reality. I was here in USA during the 1990's, so how did the politicians here use their unipolar moment? They squandered it on wars in Middle East where only few of their corporate buddies made money while regular people like me got shafted by lower paying jobs and inflation. Considering this inflation, I'm basically making same money I did when I graduated in early 2000s. America got dumb, got woke and high on fumes of the BS politicians sold us. I lived in Asia for about 9 years and during that time ended up saving more money despite making less money - that tells you something. Yes, Putin was brutal, but what about US politicians? Anybody remember the Clinton's, Cattle Futures and Vince Foster? What about Obama drone striking quarter of a million Iraqis? Now west makes videos about "dictator" Putin - because they wasted their unipolar moment. Perhaps they should have helped Russia in return for adopting Western values and systems instead of feeding their military industrial complex...maybe now Putin would be our friend and this propaganda video would not be necessary.

Why wouldn't they? While not every single Russian supports him, he is incredibly popular among Russian people. He's been the power behind the transformation of Russia from the state that the country was in following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia's economy is growing at a faster rate than many countries around the world - certainly their economic growth has left every European country in their wake... You need to know that outside the tiny bubble that comprises the NATO countries, among the remaining 82% of the world's population he is a massively admired and respected leader. A big reason for this is that Putin won't take any truck from NATO (essentially the US) whose foreign policy has been directly responsible for the deaths of millions of men, women, and children around the world. Russia has also been a huge power between the rapidly developing BRICS nations (which has more economic clout than the G7) and which also contains some of the fastest growing economies in the world. BRICS countries are also moving away from the dollar for international trade - stopping another method for the US to exercise control over their economies. When you look at the US leadership, the UK's leadership, the EU's leadership, and the leaders of the individual EU countries, the only beacon of hope is Viktor Orbán in Hungary. It's not difficult to see where Putin's popularity stems from.

In the western countries, among the leaders there is a morbid intolerance, a grudge, an envy, a jealousy of unlimited dimensions as far as the president of Russia is concerned, All the westerners who are in a position of power, hate, slander and demonize the most correct and just president of the 21st century who, despite having lifted his country from the abyss, brought it back to the center of the world arena and made every countryman feel proud of it. Ruthless, visionary and pragmatist, Vladimir Putin will go down in history as one of the greatest Russian rulers and the politicians of the western countries will die leaving behind the legacies of the dumbest idiots of the 21st century.

🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦 The most horrific thing which exists in Russia is that their government supports violence against women. In South Africa gender based violence is rampant and one of the worst in the world. However no ways is it condoned,connived or allowed by the laws. The Russian idea of "If he beats you it means he loves you" is one of the sickest things I have ever heard. My gosh the traumatising effect this must have not only on the women but on millions of children and therefore on entire society.
@cornecloete698 ай бұрын
O, please... in South Africa, it may as well be allowed as the justice system is so broken nothing happens over and over again. My mother and myself, and siblings were beaten regularly for about 15 years, and cops came by multiple times every week. Nothing ever happened. This happens almost all the time in South Africa and with almost all crimes. (Unless you are white, then you are convicted slightly more often) Your argument is that if I smack a woman and then say it's wrong, it's fine.

What makes Putin brilliant is not the fact that he clings to power, NO! He is brilliant because he has the rare ability to allow power to cling to him. He knows it and wastes no energy on that aspect, so he spends all his Witt in being the master of his game and finds himself so far ahead in the race, that he sets the standard of the fight to his design. He cannot loose and he enjoys it immensely. A leader like this is found few and far between. The west hates him, because they fear him immensely. They set traps for him, but fall into it themselves. Either the devil is on his side, or God. And if I read the bible I read that God said I will set hooks in the jaws of the King of Rosh and lead him on a path of war! And this He said to the detriment of the Mystery Babylon.
