This is called blue-eyed soul. These guys were the best. Bobby Hatfield with his beautiful tenor voice & Bill Medley with his deeper voice. They were magic together. And remember this is done live. No auto-tuning crap like today. And the songs had meaningful beautiful lyrics. Other great songs by them are "Soul & Inspiration", "Just Once In My Life", "Ebb Tide", "Rock & Roll Heaven" etc.

Yeah hear you. We were there when these guys first hit the scene. Tell you what we didn't have stereo in our vehicles everything was on shitty AM but tell you what when this first came out I heard it in my car and had to pull over. Everly's atta Canada were on fire back then as well they got it all started along with Elvis. Big O as well. Tell you what Big O had some incredible range Hatfield and Gene Pitney reminded me of him. Weren't the days. Later on Steve Perry came along in the 70's and 80's. He''s the only singer I thought in these guy's league. 81 here too.

What I love about watching him sing is how tranquil he looks. If you had the volume down you would have no idea that he's using falsetto with such force and clarity. It's seems like a lot of singers visually strain to hit certain notes. He's absolutely crushing it and makes it look easy. His phrasing is captivating. His microphone control is impeccable. The breathy tonal quality of his voice. The far away look in his eyes. Pleading. Yearning. It's absolutely unreal how he captures all of these elements using them all in tandem to take the words he's singing and elevate them to something ethereal and timeless. I've watched this video a great many times and i just sit in awe, shaking my head, wondering how. Truly, truly beautiful. As far as other songs or singers, I would recommend Johnny Harman, My One and Only Love, Johnny Mathis, When Sunny Gets Blue, Della Reese, The Lady is a Tramp, Julie London, I Should Care, Astrud Gilberto, Once I Loved, Marilyn Monroe, Specialization. I could go on for days. The thing I love about many singers from the 50s and 60s is that they'll all sing some of the same songs, called standards. It's interesting to hear the different takes on the same number. You gain an appreciation for just why it is that certain singers are as highly regarded as they are when you compare and contrast performances. I was thinking that might be a fun way to separate yourself from the crowd. Lots of people post reactions to particular singers singing certain songs but to play different versions of the song by various artists would be interesting. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Thank you.

I told you this before, but this song was repopularized after it was used in "Top Gun", and the same for the other one you heard, "Unchained Melody", after being in the 90s movie "Ghost". So these tend to be the two songs by them that everyone knows. "Soul and Inspiration" is another good one. Bill Medley, the deep voiced one, also did a duet with Jennifer Warnes for a song specifically made for the soundtrack of the 80s movie "Dirty Dancing" called "I've Had The Time Of My Life", which became a big hit at the time. You should check out the song and the movie. There's actually so much good music in that movie that they released two soundtrack albums. Including a song sung by Patrick Swayze, the actor and star of that movie, called "She's Like The Wind", which I actually love.

Bisscute.... you commented about how loud the background sound was .... that was the work of producer Phil Spector ...he created the legendary 'wall of sound' to add fullness to a song. He was also husband to Ronnie Spector who was the lead singer of the group The Ronettes .... their hit song Be My Baby was also produced by Phil has that same 'wall of sound'. If you listen to that song you'll immediately identify it.

The best part of my day today... was watching your face as you fell in love with this music. (as I did long ago) In case you didn't know they are not really brothers. Names are Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. Bobby, the high voice passed away a few years ago, but Bill is still performing today. They together owned a little nightclub/restaurant fairly close by to me, and they performed frequently. Another great tune from about the same time (1967) is Groovin, by the Young Rascals. Beautiful song - I fell in love for the first time with my teenage girlfriend, as we listened to this on the radio. I know you'll love it.
