Hey Eddie! Great video, I just recently purchased the DHO914S for my Shop/Lab. Its good to know that I got a pretty good investment. BTW, I became a KZbin member and Patreon because I am wanting to become a better engineer. I also sent a message to you on Patreon looking for advice. Looking forward to learn more from you and this channel.

Thanks so much! I appreciate you! I think the DHO914S is a fantastic option! I'll check in on my Patreon. I have to admit - it doesn't change very often and I rarely get messages there - so I don't check it as much as I should. I'll do a better job in checking in on this.

Great demonstration! One thing for sure is you could spend at least three to four hours going through all the features of this new Rigol. Last year, I almost bought a Siglent largely because of your videos. However, literally within a few days of making a purchase, Rigol released these new 12-bit devices and I caught an AliExpress sale. For me, it was time to upgrade from my old Tek analog scope. It is unfortunate you have to send yours back so soon when there are so many more things myself and many others would like to see. I would, however, like to thank you for spending the time that you have with this demonstration!

Thanks so much! I was able to make 3 videos, and the first 2 were pretty long - but are getting a high view count. I don't know if Rigol realizes how much work it is to do these videos. Other companies let me keep the equipment in return for doing the video and giving them some essentially free marketing to a targeted audience. Well, it was good to get a few videos out of it. Now I have to go out in a snow storm and return it.

Great video, I love this family of Rigol oscilloscopes but I prefer their brother in 900s family. For learning all the quirks in oscilloscope usage I would recommend the Batronix MSO Demo Board. Despite it's very expensive it will make you very proficient in the usage of your oscilloscope and will teach you how to get the most of it.

Greetings Eddie! I love these kind of oscilloscope how to videos. 🥂 Because after you get a new digital scope then what? The simple stuff is fairly easy. However, what else can this smart beast do? The manufactures seem to limit the example videos. Great video. Thank you. ✨ Next, is to use the scope in some real world tricky troubleshooting videos.

@@KissAnalog One bug I experienced was concerning the trigger threshold leveI for decoding RS232 ASCII or I2C. Seems it was when set to times 10 probe which what it actually was, it was not good for the scope. They released new firmware so I'll have to see if it been corrected. There are many other things such as Bode response and FFT plots that are questionable as per Dave Jones EEVBlog forum.

@@KissAnalog First bug I experienced when I got my Rigol DHO-924S earlier last year was trigger threshold for decoding protocols such as i2c or ascii when using a 10x probe. They have addressed this bug but seems they have made more bugs in the process. I follow the EEVblog test equipment forum for updates on this scope. I think Rigol have some difficulty in their firmware/software development. I think it's a challenge for Rigol given the complexity of this product in such a small market. Latest firmware version 1.04 seems good one to use.
@KissAnalog12 күн бұрын
Great to hear that they are working it out. Unfortunately, there are products that get released before they are fully worked out. It is great that firmware can correct it. I got this scope a year after, so probably many bugs have been corrected. My Siglent still has a bug in the FFT but they never corrected it before they stopped supporting it...

What about a power strip/ surge protectors? Are there any recommendations as to what kind to use with one of these new scopes to protect my investment and have less or no noise from incoming power, and do you have any links to some good ones. I've been recently searching for something where the strip has individual circuit breakers for each outlet, but the only things I can find are ones that have individual switches. I would hope I could find something like this eventually but have had no success. Maybe I'm just wording my searches wrong. I did find ESD power strips, and the outlets are nicely spaced out but don't have individual switches or circuit breaker functions for each outlet. Im an Audio home theater guy and was also thinking about a power cleaner. Let me know what you think, and if you have any links, that would be helpful! 😁

Great question! This scope runs off USB C power - so it is already isolated from the AC mains. Any scope with a mechanical switch will be protected when it is powered off. This plug strip is a good brand that has been around for a long time. It has a filter and protection built into it. amzn.to/3WfWxjG
@glensingleton181517 күн бұрын
@KissAnalog so if it's isolated do you have to hook up it up to earth ground some how? By the way I got the Tripp Lite ordered thank you!
@KissAnalog12 күн бұрын
Great question! You don't have to hook it up. Since it is not tied to AC power - it makes it safer to use. Every situation is different, so it is a good idea to follow what the manual recommends.
@glensingleton181512 күн бұрын
@KissAnalog I'm new never done this I'm guessing I can run a wire from the outlet ground to hook up to the back of the unit. Also saw one of those things that look like a regular plug but the hot and neutral are just plastic so you just get ground and was wondering if it's ok to plug that directly into a receptical of the Tripp Lite l?
@glensingleton181512 күн бұрын
Oh wait, I misunderstood your reply, so I don't need to hook up to the ground! Got it! 👍😁

@@KissAnalogHey Eddy, I just finished watching your Part 2 of Best Oscilloscopes under $400 that you released on Christmas Day. At the beginning of it, you mention that one of the 7” displays appears to be bigger because you can collapse the menu system. I get what you mean. Just to add to the DHO800 Rigel conversation, there are 2 gentlemen on EEVBlog that have released custom versions of the “scope app” on these devices that, IMHO, significantly improves the UI. Multi-window full screen, more efficient use of the measurements area are an example. Also displays coupling mode in the channel info area. Really neat work done by both.

@@KissAnalog I have a Rigol DHO1074. Unfortunately, segmented memory works quite badly. I tried to capture short data packets that came in 5 ms intervals. The Rigol DHO1074 was not able to capture the data without gaps. That's quite modest, because 5 ms is not that short. Then I wasn't able to save the data. So what practical use is this supposed to have? Rigol could easily have done much better. If you know how to save the data, please tell us.
