No issues whatsoever with fan noise on mine. Had it for over 2.5 years. Never once thought about fan noise until now, and now that I strain to hear it I can. Otherwise, silly to even mention it. Great device and in no way a "low end" product. I assume he means something else, like simply "not their top end model". Very different meanings there and worthwhile to be more careful when discussing quality equipment which this most certainly is.

Because the test/calibration signal output of most scopes is internally referenced to the same ground as the probes. It's also a very low frequency (1kHz), so localized probe grounding is not critical.

My Rigol DS1102E purchased March 2013 has no fan noise. Others who purchased theirs recently are reporting no noise also. Looks like they fixed the problem.

Just got my 1052 from DX about 1 year ago. Doing fine so far, though also noticed the cheap probes and the noisy fan. Finally, got an old CPU fan scavenged from a dead PS, vacuum-cleaned it, drop some WD40 and bike oil inside, and mounted it using thick rubber O-rings between screws and frame to absorb noise. The scope is far quieter now. Just a thought.

I would really like to be an aprentice in your shop, you really have a lot of skill to pass on to the youth to talke your mantel to the next generation. You are very patient in explaining everything you do and I really respect you for that. Im into electronics and CNC, but nothing close to your skill level. Please let me know what you think about my request. Thank you.

That is good news. I ended up replacing my fan with a quieter one. My unit was tolerable for a few minutes, then got obnoxiously loud.

I still think it's a decent 'scope for a very reasonable price. It lacks some polish and features of higher-end scopes, but so far it's handled everything I've needed to do with it. I do miss things like I2C/SPI/async protocol analysis, but you can buy yourself a dirt cheap slow PC-based logic analyzer and get that functionality if you really need it. I'd say if you can afford to spend more, step up to a higher class of scope, but if you can only spare a few hundred you could do a lot worse.

I watched a video on the OWON Scope and that one said the Probes were better quality and the fan was much quieter. Dave Jones has done a teardown of the Rigol and says it's well built.

Nice review, thanks. I have this scope and find that the fan noise increases substantially after a few minutes of operational, suggesting that the fan speed is tied to operating temperatures. Do you find the same?

Fan sounds good to me, it's that glitch on the screen that would worry me. Perhaps it will disappear after you read the manual. Great video.

Aren't there resellers in your country? I bought mine from Instrumentcenter (Sweden) just yesterday, but I'm not sure whether they'd ship to other countries.

I see there is only one set of vertical control knobs for both the channels. How do you select the channel before adjusting? I see the front panel is quite confusing compared to a tek or siglent scope.

They dropped the price on the 100MHz scope, it's only about $50 more than the 50Mhz one. Also, there were some rumors on forums about newer scopes (or newer firmware versions) acting flaky with the hack. It wasn't worth the small savings to me to hack it.

Unfortunately mine was loud enough to be really irritating in a quiet room, so I ended up replacing the fan with a quieter one and it's not so bad now. I didn't notice it as much when I was working in my electronics lab down in my basement, but when I had it up in my home office when I was doing a long round of firmware development, it bugged me enough to do something about it.

I was wondering, why isn't your ground clip connected in this video? Am I missing something?

Ive been looking at Rigol models for a while and I think bang for the buck, they are some very decent scopes. I hear a lot of complaints about fan noise, but how bad could it be? Ive worked with some people in a lab and wish they were as loud as this fan! Lol Thx for the video
