This is an in house tape from the audience in the balcony. Sometimes it is more interesting to hear how the voices carried in the house. Some voices sound much bigger in the house than they do on recordings, like Del Monaco for example. My voice was always bigger in the house than on recordings. The BBC also recorded this performance from Belfast but I had someone in the audience tape each night so I could review it and see how my voice was carrying in the house. Christoff sounded big on records, but in the house he sounded like a mouse! I sang with a Met soprano-big name at the Met--for a Gilda in another Rigoletto and she sounded like a mouse on stage AND in the house.
