I remember the time before this whole album came out, a snippet of 'higher' leaked from her phone OR she posted it, it was just a phone's screen saying 'higher // unknown album'. It was 2015 and I was green as a salad regarding love, but those few seconds of the song changed my life. I wanted to love like that, it felt like the raw, absolute reality of what love can encompass for one person. The need, the crave, the desperation. My family is asking me 'why aren't you over him, it's been a month' and I say 'yeah, but before that, it's been 4 years of him and 13 years of absolutely adoring people like Rihanna and growing up on her music, and her music ranges from 'needed me' to 'desperado' to 'love on the brain' to 'close to you' and I have no choice but to feel all that'. I'm telling you, Rihanna is the perfect soothing balm for anything. You want to party? this is what you came for. talk that talk. four five seconds.
