SAIIX Firstly, Rihanna has never proclaimed to be a role model for little kids, her music and her style has never suggested this, children are not her target audience. She just does her and that should be acknowledged and respected. Second, the responsibility of rape should not fall on what girls choose to wear. Women should be able to step outside in as much or as little as they please and still not fear rape. Don't blame rape on girls and how they dress. Third the amount of criticism from women in the comments is astounding. There is nothing wrong with taking pride in your body and self. Rihanna is fearless, what she is wearing is revealing and still tasteful. She looks beautiful, glamourous and expensive. This is inspiring. I honestly think that if Natalie Portman or some other popular, stick thin white model or actress did something as daring and brave as this the comment section would look quite different and the word inspiring would be used more frequently. Rihanna doesn't conform to set standards for women and how we should dress to look beautiful and elegant, how much we should or should not show and this should be admired.

Caribbean culture accomodates a high level of sexual confidence among women. Being inherently sexy is appreciative. Our music, the way we move our bodies when we dance and other aspects of our culture breathe sensuality. There is absolutely nothing wrong with expressing one's sensuality and one's self with fashion. There is however a thin line between being sensual and being vulgar. As one of the more popular role models for Caribbean girls, one should be mindful of that.

I take no offense by this. What are clothes for? The core use of them is to protect our skin from harsh environments and temperatures. Then after this, to protect others and ourselves from diseases. But that's out of the context. Why is nudity and sexuality more taboo than violence? Why is it normal in tribes to expose more skin whereas in the rest of the world we cover our entire bodies? Is there an explanation for it? Why is it okay at the beach? Why is it wrong at the park? Why is it okay at a gay parade? Trust me ladies and gentlemen, 40 years from now, people will look at this the same way we look at girdles. It was inappropriate for the time period yes. It just doesn't bother me the same way it bothered many. I thought it was very elegant yet explicit.

Rihanna is comfortable enough in her skin to wear this dress and I greatly admire her for that, let the woman show off her amazing natural beauty the way she wants to. The female body was not made to be a sex object so i do not see why so many people make it that way. She is just showing her body there is nothing wrong with that.

In my opinion, this dress is made for 'fashion only' a dress that accentuates the sexy curves of a sexy woman. Therefore this dress is suited for the occasion as it does honor Rihannas sense of style. With that being said, to view this dress to be inappropriate or out of context is absurd. However if this dress was used for any other purpose would be controversial as there is a standard for clothing wear in all of places.

Gaga's meat outfit was shocking but what was the meaning? Riri's outfit screams "you can admire my body, but it's still mine". She made it clear she's not wearing it for anyone other then her

Wow I just saw the comments! I think there is people who does not know about the history of Fashion, and why we dress. Or even how in Medieval Times in Europe people used to take a bath near the rivers. How people from tropical lands embellish their body in the most sophisticated, ceremonial and serious ways. Dress has a purpose for the occasion besides any thing else and the candor and sweetness that Rihanna expressed with her gown is incredible beautiful and artistic. Please listen to the video from the beginning and listen, but really listen why she won!

I remember this look like it was yesterday. I can't believe it's been that many years! This look will never be surpassed for me, personally. Though she continues to excel in every way.

I think the problem with the hateful comments is that no one is in fact listening to what Rihanna is saying in her speech - she herself says that fashion tells you a lot about a person, and she herself can be outrageous, and rebellious, etc. She's got a great body which she's probably worked hard for, so she shows it yet covering herself in a very unique and different dress, which are two qualities which have helped her get this award. If this was a Victoria Secret show, no one would have complained I bet. Half of the models we have these days have outfits like this, so why are people judging her so much?

I only like Ri cuz she is VERY pretty and I adore her fashion, makeup,hair. And she's sort of down to earth. I really like this outfit too BUT...shes gotta cover up just a bit. Hiding your secrets makes you a sexy tease but exposing everything just makes you a ho ho ho. Like, I'm all for independent women ya-dee-ya, but this has nothing to do with it. Its about decency. This outfit is a tad bit indecent. I'm sure she's comfy with her body and "wants to show other women that they can be too" but being comfy isn't about being naked. One can lose weight and feel proud about herself but still she puts a shirt back on or knows the appropriate time and place to wear something that shows off the body. But I guess Ri likes to make waves...

seems like riri is actually more down to earth than u are... she'd never tell any woman how to dress and police their fashion let apply her standards of decency and arbitrary morals on another woman to tell her how to feel proud of herself. decent for who? if she feels most comfortable in that moment being naked, let her be. she'd tell u and anyone else the same thing, shed say more power to u. lighten up.
@THEDOORIZCLOSED10 жыл бұрын
ggoldcow There is a thing called common decency. I'd tell my best friend if she was lookin bad and she needed to change her outfit. Decent for who? The public. Men. The type of approach men have is based on how the woman looks and conducts herself. Sure, if she's comfortable being naked, go ahead. But the rest of the world sees her as a ho. Shes gorgeous and doesn't need to expose her self to millions of thirsty people like that. A woman should actually be happy that I would tell her this because a woman's worth is more than her body. So yes, I love Rihanna as well as any other woman to tell them not to give it all away like that, respect yourself, save the goods for the one that matters. Beauty and sexiness isn't about being naked.

Its amazing to me how she can wear something so provocative and offensive yet give such a heartfelt and honest speech. I personally feel the dress she wore is very distasteful and a gives women a bad image and see that several other people thinK this outfit is very offensive. Yet honestly lets be real here. Rihanna does not care! She does not live for everyone else but solely for herself. And as bold as this is in the fashion world, fashion is meant to be bold, different, an expression of oneself. She is clearly giving one. I cannot respect her outfit and the way she carry's her self, but I can respect her strong will to be her and be unaffected by other's opinions.

To me Rihanna has a lot of moments when it comes to her fashion - but this to me might be her most iconic moment (no pun intended). The glamour, the sexiness and the elegance all wrapped in one.
