Kris, Excellent video, pure speech. Tell me and exacting directions. Please tell me what you know about the Volvo XC 60, model year 2022/2023 pilot assist, whether this pilot assist stops the car completely and safely when the driver falls asleep or is ill, in a traffic jam the car drives on its own, stops and starts moving on its own and keeps the car in the right lane and keeps a safe distance in front of the moving car. Do you have the knowledge and answers to give me?

Hi I have a 2016 Volvo XC90 T6 momentum, it has the pilot assist gen1, taught will upgrade to Gen 2 but to my surprise the dealer said that I would need the hydraulic changed and couple of other equipments changed as well such has the intelli safe equipment. I was surprised when the dealer said that to me. Since on volvo website it only speaks about an software upgrade. Can any one in the forum suggest if that is true?

Hey, it's funny that you mention BMW, Audi and Mercedes. Here in Europe the best driver assist system is hands down the new BMW system, next is Mercedes together with Audi (one is better than the other in different things) and then behind them is the Volvo system. And that's excluding Tesla, because I don't have much experience with it. But maybe that's different in the US.

I agree, volvo uses "only" a radar behind the windscreen (+ cam) so it can't be as good as bmw/benz/audi (even Peugeot or Ford) systems...

Or just use Android Auto or Carplay and you can let the system read the messages for you. You can answer in speech to text or just call them back with the voice activation.

I had a MY20 XC60 full spec inscription pro which I sadly had to sell after being on furlough since March last year and bought a MY19 S90 R design. The pilot assist was far superior in the XC60, with curve assist and accurate lane keeping even on worn out dividing lines. The S90 I don’t trust which wavers around even solid lines. I am told by the dealership the S90 can’t be updated to the latest version. It just shows the advancement a year can make in technology.

Steve, when you say MY19 - are you talking about the Tesla? Was the Volvo pilot assist better than the Tesla driver assistance then?

@@taruntius1 I believe MY19 means Model Year 2019 of the Volvo S90 R design. From his comment he's saying Volvo's 2020 Pilot Assist on XC60 is much better than Volvo's 2019 Pilot Assist on S90. It sounds like it's more likely due to the model year than the car itself.

That's bullshit, you just need to shake the steering little bit, and remove your hand, it does not require 2 hands

I think its downgrade there upgrade but we getting probably Volvo xc90 in 3 months. We have now bmw x6 and idk if Volvo has the automatic stearin wheel line change. That u put small pressure on blinkers and the car turn slight to that line if u know hat i mean.

This video stops short of challenging the system. I have the xc60 2019 and it doesn't always work. It will step over the line every once in a while, specially when the road bends

I always reduce the speed when getting to a sharp curve, that way it keeps the vehicle in lane

I have a 21 Tesla model 3 and a 2019 XC90. The Volvo autopilot is better than the a Tesla especially at self steering.

not true, lane assist will send you into guardrail if you rely on it entirely.

I don't think Tesla's autopilot is that much better except that Autopilot can change lanes on the higher way. They are both level 2. And for Autopilot you have to pay additional $10,000!

Tesla autopilot allows much sharper curves and also adjusts the speed for sharper curves.

@@gunner_3 Tesla is removing sonar and testing Lidar. They have been in level 2 since the beginning of time and making incremental improvements within level 2. Even if they can achieve computer vision, which is a big IF, it can only operate in good weather and visibility. Volvo will be the first car equipped with a Lidar in 2022. BMW and VW will be a couple of years later. Then in 2025 it will be Apple EV. Tesla wasted valuable time betting on computer vision.

@@jwxujerry i agree with you but I think level 3 and above isn't possible without visual assistance. Lidar and radar isn't good enough for stationary objects. And almost every car cruise control uses radar so it's not a new tech. I don't know if Tesla can perfect visual based tech but I'll be happy with whomever comes with it. I'm no Tesla fanboy I'll buy apple car if it's better with self driving.

Can't agree that Tesla's autopilot are the best. Good on some parts, but I wouldn't trust it.. Volvo's system have many qualities, but it needs a update to compete to some of the German competitors that partly have better functionality. The ADAS system in XC40 P8 are much better than current Pilot Assist, and also with new features. So we don't have to wait until SPA2 XC90 for that. It's important to also mention that this is just a assist function. So can't trust at it 100% and look at your phone instead.

Only Teslas can stop at intersections, traffic lights/stop signs ,make turns, and go through roundabouts, drive around parked cars etc.

@@starshipdriver8536 Well in the UK some people tested it and it is no where near reliable enough. It was too easily guided off a slip road and got confused at roundabouts. The road conditions and markings are just not well maintained enough for these systems to work reliably. you have to pay so much attention to baby the car you may aswell drive.

Hello Kris, Tesla is by far not the most advanced for Assist Systems. There is in detail analysis from reputational Universities where you can see they are midrange. Volvo is in the Top 3 btw, depending on the year.

Use of a mobile, by the driver in a moving vehicle is a real no! no! So many fatalities have occurred doing just that, and in most sensible countries is illegal. With in built bluetooth and handfree why the heck would one do it? Just dumb!
