That magical time when lurid was fashionable for the first time for comedy, on TV. Young people in the eighties some of them just (ahem) lapping it up. Yet some people never get that now, and in all the intervening years, like some never did, or it's so commonplace it's not the same. Magical humour, or as a five year old friend in the eighties used to say, maggot.

I'm afraid you are mistaken there. Oliver Reed's fake drunk appearance was on THE WORD in 1995, just a handful of years before he died, and WAY after this. I still seethe at the way the talentless Terry Christian took the piss - but Ollie, true to form reacted like a legend. Ollie to Terry: "I hear you're a heterosexual".... classic!
