I remember having a VHS copy of the Dark Crystal and a advert for this played before the film and for years I wondered what it was, many years later I found out about it and it was just after I learnt about who Rik Mayall was! it was like he was always there and I never noticed him before!
@EnchantedEssays7 ай бұрын
Oh really! I hadn't really heard of him until he died, and I don't think I saw him in anything until about a year ago. Thanks for watching!

I don't know if you've heard of Crackanory before, but it's a show with a similar format as Jackanory that aired on Dave a few years ago, but aimed at more adult audiences. There's not much info about it online (I downloaded a bunch of the official audiobooks and put 'em on my channel back when the series was 'popular') but I'm sure you would be interested in giving it a look - one of the episodes, the Weatherman, is even narrated by Mayall himself!

The Weatherman is Rik's last appearance on TV & was broadcast some months after he died which made it somehow special-special!❤

I'm so glad this video exists! it does mean I can no longer say 'As far as I know I've made the only Grim Tales review on KZbin' but...I never said that anyway because no one I know really knows about the show (or would indeed care, actually). I desperately hope there'll be some sort of DVD/streaming release one day...I hope the same about Jackanory actually, they've done a few but they tend to be the stories that are easy to find or that a lot of people already know quite well like Peter Pan or Alice in Wonderland (I like both a lot but I'd still fancy seeing some of the lesser known stories they covered)
@EnchantedEssays7 ай бұрын
I hadn't realised that you'd reviewed it too! I must check it out! Yeah it's a shame. At the BFI in London, they have a media library where you can watch old TV shows, some of which haven't been released, so maybe there's some there. Thanks for watching!

this style of show is super familiar to me. did they show reruns of this regularly or have another show with the same premise?
@EnchantedEssays7 ай бұрын
There was a reboot of Jackanory when I was little. The CBBC one didn't last long, but CBeebies had one called Jackanory Junior that lasted longer. That might have been what you saw

Thank you for your piece on actors working on some films for money. I'm sure the people who complain about that didn't choose money as a leading factor in their decision to apply 🙄

What was that one clip of him in that large dining room and he had long hair? 😊
@EnchantedEssays4 ай бұрын
It was a Jackanory he did called "The Frog Prince: The Twuth" I think. It should still be on KZbin. Unfortunately, there was him doing Jack in the Beanstalk on Jackanory but it was taken down a while ago
