There's something really endearing to me that on a Klingon ship the crew all eat dinner together in one big dining room.
@Veridiano022 жыл бұрын
Since Klingon birds of prey's crew compliment is around... 10 people at most? Maybe 12, don't remember exactly, and since there are currently 8 members (9 with the captain) on the crew, having them eat together seems the most practical, obvious choice. A Vor'cha cruiser, for example, has a crew of 1500 or something, so they probably don't eat together. Either that or that ship's dining room is massive.
@baddriversofmoosejaw86812 жыл бұрын
@@Veridiano02 A B'Rel Class Bird of Prey like that typically has a crew of 36. However, they can be operated by as few as 6 as demonstrated in Star Trek IV when Kirk and his 6 officers took one back in time and then returned to the present with the 2 humpback whales. The idea of a warship that can be operated by such a small crew is handy in wartime because this means fewer losses. Although only 12 of the crew operate the ship. The other 24 are flight crew and troops since the Klingons often use their ships, even a Bird of Prey as troop carries, not just warships. Besides at mealtime regardless of ship type and crew size, the entire crew doesn't eat together as not having people at vital stations at all times would compromise ship operations. Ships typically have a shift operation and only one-third of the crew is on watch during each shift which is 8 hours long and sometimes 2 8-hour watches a day. The other 2 thirds would be eating, sleeping, exercising, training, performing maintenance, cleaning, or enjoying downtime. Star Trek ships are no different.
@Jason75913 Жыл бұрын
@@baddriversofmoosejaw8681 the same B'Rel class that Kirk commandeered a century earlier?
@baddriversofmoosejaw8681 Жыл бұрын
@@Jason75913 Yes. Also, Klingon ships are meant for war, not exploration. Federation ships typically have a bigger crew because of all the science labs and exploration equipment. Although by the 24th century, the crews are smaller. For example, Kirk's Enterprise had a crew complement of 430 as did the Klingon D7 class cruisers he sometimes encountered although many of the D7's crews were troops since the D7s can be operated by smaller crews being smaller ships. After Kirk's Enterprise was refitted in The Motion Picture its saucer section was replaced with a bigger one and its engineering section was a bit wider. This increased its length from 289 meters to 305 meters and its crew complement increased to 500. Also has 23 decks but that's only because of the neckpiece between the saucer and engineering sections. By the 24 century, newer classes like the Intrepid Class which is what Voyager is are longer than Kirk's Enterprise at 345 meters although only 15 decks and still have a greater internal volume. They are operated by a crew of 200. Voyager only had a crew of 150 because she was only supposed to be gone for 3 weeks and then return to port. But as we all know she ended up in the Delta Quadrant for 7 years and still managed to make it back to Earth in one peace. If she'd had a full crew of 200 including a councillor and enough food to last for 7 or more years as she normally would've it would've made the journey home easier.
@Jason75913 Жыл бұрын
@@baddriversofmoosejaw8681 yes, I know those Klingon vessels aren't meant for diplomacy and exploration like Federation ships, and your long exposition doesn't even begin to explain why they keep a ship class that is likely outdated. Another video explained a Cardassian-Klingon battle and the Klingon's heavy use of B'Rels. I expected the ship that Kirk stole to be a predecessor class.

Why is it Klingons spend their whole lives learning hand to hand combat practically 24/7. And yet every fight with the federation they lose.
@Fermion.5 жыл бұрын
I've always wondered that too. Federation vs. a Klingon is like a Navy officer vs. an MMA fighter. It would make more sense if it were a Federation special forces officer winning in h2h combat, but a regular bridge officer? No way in hell.
@Frankie2012channel4 жыл бұрын
@Jeff Sol Jeff, I would agree that it's probable that WORF helped Riker prepare A LOT for this mission. Including hints on how to fight Klingons in hand to hand combat. But to be fair, 9 times out of 10, if they're not taken by surprise, a Klingon will kick the ass of a human.
@brianpeck40354 жыл бұрын
they edit out all the losses. Startrek is Starfleet propaganda.
@tacitus35914 жыл бұрын
It's not that weird if you think about it. Cultures prize the things that are rare or difficult for them to obtain. Maybe Klingons aren't that great at fighting, which is why they organize their society around it - it makes them way better than they would be naturally, but still kind of shit compared to everyone else.
@Someonehahaha3 жыл бұрын
The theory I like to think is that Klingons are actually naturally physically much weaker then humans. But since they train from birth to be elite fighters. They basically are just slightly above normal humans at their peeks. Strong humans such as Riker and Kirk end up being physically overpowering even thou they are less skilled fighters and honestly less durable. Before people bring up worf. Note that Worf is basically legendary in ability compared to even other klingons. TNG worf maybe less so but DS9 worf definitively was well above the majority of klingons.

@0megacron5 жыл бұрын
Same actor, but two different characters. The one here, Klag, fought valiantly throughout the Dominion War, eventually getting his own command. In fact, it was Klag's first command - the IKS Gorkon - that escorted Worf on his first mission as Federation Ambassador to the Klingons. Years later, by the time of Star Trek Online (which I think is loosely canon, not sure), Klag was a general in the Klingon Defense Forces and he led the Klingon invasion of Gorn.
@matteobeneduce2565 жыл бұрын

Riker's character role on Star trek the next generation was ingeniously formatted, he was not too old or young and had the right looks for the sequel. Riker beautifully kept the balance of maintaining the interspecies romance action (not over board) of Kirk which surely would have been pointed out by fans if it was no longer present and at the same time still having some strong authoritative character role without being like a copy of Kirk a 100%. The quality of Star trek was so genius on how the sequels handed it off to each other without sacrificing that "feel of being there" and maintain what we love about each one in spite of the new characters. Hell when they temporary bring back characters from previous sequels, it's still flawless and how many sci-fi broadcasts decades old can say that in modern times?
