The Riker maneuver was actually down to Jonathan Frakes having a back issue. This also caused him to suffer from prolonged periods of time. Which gave rise to his one sided poses as he displaced weight from one side to another during filming to help with it.

What's great is it doesn't remotely come off as a move to ease pain, but a swift and effortless piece of acrobatic skill enabled by his height, the equivalent of a guy reaching up to tap a light fixture/doorway as he walks by because he can.
@haphazardlark1502 Жыл бұрын
@@KairuHakubi it’s amazing how things can become both compensation for pain and injury and graceful and confident like that. It blows my mind how our bodies can adapt. I completely destroyed my knees and ankles pushing too far with an undiagnosed connective tissue issue and i can barely keep my balance and hobble around like an 80 year old trying to walk normally but if I can glide on my toes in socks I can move like water. I have a friend who’s an ambulatory wheelchair user, can’t stand upright and still for more than ten seconds without horrible pain, but still dances. The more intensive the compensation the more focus it takes and it can get less efficient but once you learn to feel what your body can do instead of pushing it to do something it can’t anymore, there’s a joy in that movement that’s one hell of a confidence booster ime Like fine I can’t do the thing normal so I will fully lean into doing it the weird way until it becomes a signature move Idk I think it’s neat
