KZbin presents: The Inaccessible Accessibility Summit! *Really*, guys?
@Exiled.New.Yorker11 ай бұрын
I'd suggest calling the ACLU and ask if they feel up to biting google in the arse this week.
@daysleeper720911 ай бұрын
That is completely ridiculous. The answer to your request should have been, "Of course! We'll get right on that." Better yet, it could have been planned for ahead of time, without waiting for someone to ask.

You mentioned the craptions. Also KZbin, allows shorts but crams a bunch of not needed crap at the bottom of the screen so you can't see the captions or half the video. Recently, KZbin started putting this black bar on the bottom left corner of certain videos. It's to buy that person's stuff. But it blocks the captions. You can close it, but it repeatedly keeps popping back up. It's infuriating.
@rikkipoynter11 ай бұрын
I understand the bottom info stuff- it's the post description and it helps with SEO. I use it myself to help get my video out there and I can put my video descriptions and transcript on it. But it does suck that there's not really a good system put in place so that we know where to put the captions. The product bar, etc. I've always seen outside of the video player so that's interesting to know

Hey thank you for talking about this. Ive been following you for a while but this is timely. I'm going through some bullshit getting accommodations at work (can't even get automatic captions for zoom without a pile of forms from a doctor...not my audiologist, need to find a doctor). It sucks that even getting the legal minimum is so hard for us. But this video made me feel a little less alone. Anyway the lighting is great lol
@jaceWorl11 ай бұрын
t's frustrating how difficult it can be to get the accommodations we need, even when it's just the legal minimum. I totally understand your struggle with getting automatic captions for Zoom. It shouldn't be such a hassle. Hang in there and keep advocating for yourself. You deserve to have equal access. And hey, thanks for the compliment on the lighting! 😄🎥

That sounds awful! I don’t really have anything meaningful to add to the conversation - I’m commenting for the algorithm (also this is a side note, but your hair looks so pretty!)

I agree and it is unfortunate that KZbin has pulled this crap, but at least we have continued to use this platform and other platforms to reach out and do something with the content that we create that’s meant to educate, to entertain, to engage and to challenge people to think more critically about issues that affect us, so I am glad you’re still on KZbin, despite all the issues that KZbin has refused to address. Thanks for sharing this insightful video that has helped me a lot as a disabled and deaf-blind content creator so I know what to expect in the future if I were to interact with KZbin HQ at events and whatnot.

Hey @LKTheHorrorNerd! I totally agree with you. It's unfortunate that KZbin has been neglecting certain issues, but it's great to see creators like you using the platform to educate, entertain, engage, and challenge people. Your content is so important, especially as a disabled and deaf-blind creator. It's essential to know what to expect when interacting with KZbin HQ and events. Keep doing what you're doing and making a difference! 💪🎥

It's a shame that happened to you. There's no excuse for it.

Jeez, how silly of them to say they're "unable" to do it. I'm sorry you had to go through that. As a deaf person, I've been relying a lot on Windows 11's live captioning lately to make whatever I'm watching much more accessible. It's not perfect, but it has opened up a lot of possibilities for me that I didn't have before. I guess it's their mindset now that everything is "automatic" thus everything should be okay? Idk. As for the profanity censorship, I hate it. It is unnecessarily infantilizing. Adults are adults, plain and simple. Anyway, I enjoy your videos :)

KZbin should be ensuring that their platform is accessible for people with disabilities, and if they're not, it could be a violation of the ADA. It's definitely a significant issue that needs to be addressed. Disabled individuals deserve equal opportunities to access and engage with content on KZbin. Let's continue to raise awareness and advocate for a more inclusive and fair platform. Together, we can your frustration with KZbin's response to the request for accommodations. It's important for platforms like KZbin to prioritize accessibility and ensure that everyone has equal opportunities to participate. Ghosting and not providing accommodations can be really disheartening. Remember, there are advocacy groups and communities out there working towards improving accessibility and holding platforms accountable. Keep raising your voice and advocating for change. ncredibly frustrating when platforms like KZbin don't prioritize accessibility for people with disabilities. It can feel like they're not taking it seriously or even discriminating against them. It's important for KZbin to understand the impact of their actions and work towards making their platform more inclusive for everyone. Keep speaking up and advocating for change. Your voice ! It's a real problem that KZbin is not providing accessibility for people with deaf disabilities and other disabilities. It's unfair and discriminatory. Holding KZbin accountable is definitely important to ensure that they make the necessary changes. We need to keep pushing for reasonable accommodations and equal opportunities for everyone. Together, we can make a difference and create a more inclusive platform. Let's continue to advocate for change!

Your lighting looks fine to me. Unfortunately large companies such as KZbin continue to do as they please until there’s a class action lawsuit that forces them to be better.

I was thinking of becoming a Content Creator myself but I am unsure how to go about it, especially that I am moderate deaf. I'm sorry that YT ghosted you when asking about accommodations, having all that tech and ability to help out but it seems they're just lazy and undermined us, disabled users; not wanting to do any work. btw, love your Pikachu in the back ^_^
@jaceWorl11 ай бұрын
Hey Renota! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It's great to hear that you're interested in becoming a Content Creator, even with being moderate deaf. Don't let any doubts hold you back! There are ways to make content creation accessible for yourself, such as using captions or subtitles in your videos. As for KZbin, it's unfortunate that they haven't been responsive to accommodation requests. It can be frustrating when platforms don't prioritize the needs of disabled users. But let's not let that discourage us from pursuing our passions and advocating for change.

That is so frustrating! One of the biggest tech companies can definitely make something like live captions happen. I'm sorry you still have to deal with stuff like that.

The NAD has advocacy letters that you can send when you need accessibility. Have you considered contacting the NAD about this?

The government chooses not to enforce the ADA and that’s why all kinds of businesses choose to discriminate.

It's also just not worth going through the hassle of a potential lawsuit over watching some livestreams that I'm not getting paid to watch lol If it was a workshop I was actually putting my own work into and presenting at, or something I would actually have to be involved with like when I was in KZbin NextUp, then that would be a different story.

Spend a little bit of money to be inclusive, which would increase your overall satisfaction for content creators and viewers (therefore, your profit margin) -OR- be a hypocritical, money grubbing company of [redacted], which will lead to your eventual bankruptcy and closure. Great job KZbin. Excellent business model.
@richiefrancis842410 ай бұрын
Hi Rikki, I'm sorry to hear of that and lately, KZbin has been making more and more ridiculous choices (recently the ban on ad blockers; I've mainly used it to stop pop-up ads from slowing down my Laptop). Though impossible, I'll remain hopeful that they'll knock that off one day.

Not surprised how KZbin treated you. Did you ever notice that KZbin would always give a shoutout to the Black, Indian, or Asian youtubers, and sometimes a handicapped one? But no shoutout to a Deaf youtuber, not a single one. I'm been on youtube for over 12 years. I feel like KZbin doesn't care about the Deaf youtubers.
