Riley's Next QB For USC

I can't see USC grabbing a 4-star QB from the portal. You'd have to overpay both that 4-star QB and Maiava just to hold onto both until the spring portal window opens, then watch the backup leave. Times have changed. General Booty's in the portal; he looks like he could be a backup like Jake Jensen. Javance Tupou'ata-Johnson from SDSU is in there and he was a dual-threat in HS. Maybe Malachi Nelson wants a second try at USC?

Marc- hope you are right about the reasoning behind the OL bailing for the portal. But last spring, when Isiah Rakes left, we all thought we had an elite DL coming to us thru the portal. That all blew up in our face.

We need to go back to filling holes with these players. Most of the transfer guys are ones that had minimum playing time, so it begs the question, are they really worth the time. No, player should be able to announce they are transfering untill after the National Championship game, and you can only move one time.

Riley is looking for a QB who can improvise and keep a pass play alive and well. Approximately 65% of his pass plays break down due to horrible route combinations (wait does the offense employ an actual route tree?)or a two level progression system. His go to? Back shoulder fade. Let’s be real. Riley is more suited to be an NFL QB coach with a staff that suppresses his ego and leaves him no choice but to be a student.

I think the he's asking the genie for a starting center and a linebacker. The portal's tough cause the best QBs are going to expect to start so he will need a younger QB who will be willing to sit and learn. Josh Connerly started at Oregon? Tobias Raymond can very possibly play right tackle.

Good morning, MARC I have a few thoughts after four seasons under coach Lincoln and Riley Usc Football is 29 wins and 22 losses compared to the other blue ship programs around the country. This is not acceptable. I’m not even sure why we’re not even having this conversation about our progress what do we need to do to catch up , RNIL deals that need to be better. Ohio State spent $20 million on last year‘s recruiting class. Only God knows how much money Oregon has spent last year let alone the last several years. We need to do better Mark in these areas, it’s really hard to get excited about quarterback and recruiting class when we don’t hold on to our blue chip playersand we don’t get enough of them to begin with. I’m just frustrated with this team with this coach, I want Usc Football to be better and it’s taking a long long long time.

USC will never content for a BIG 10 championship until they figure out their NIL deal and Coach! 29-24 last 4 years under this coach is not worth the 10 million dollars SC is paying for.

I hope Mason Murphy finds success some place, it looked like he just didn’t gel with the rest of the line. Maybe merely playing out of position? He always seemed to be the weak link, and was lucky he wasn’t called for a lot more false starts than he was. Just my opinion from what I saw on TV.

Its just so pitiful in college football these days. So you have to look for someone who isnt good enough to start but is good enough to be a backup in case of injury and also a placeholder until the 5 star is ready. If he's too good the incumbent starter who only started 3 games will leave because he wants the job guaranteed to him without competition. And everything has to be spaced out perfectly so no one leaves.. Wonderful.. What a joke!

Correct. Taking the “college” out of “college football” leaves many fans essentially rooting for a jersey - with the guys in the jerseys having little real connection to the school. Look at Indiana. Almost none of the guys wearing those jerseys have any meaningful connection to the school. Almost all portal guys who arrived in summer, with many of them playing their last game in a few days. The transfer rules need to change.

All I know are the websites I read everyday show the top Portal athletes committing to all the top, excuse me, flagship programs but nothing happening at USC and Lincoln Riley. What is he waiting for? Waiting for the leftovers to choose from like previous Portals? The previous seasons are telling this genius what he is doing isn't working but he is Einstein's favorite dunce doing the same thing over and over and expecting difference results! Maiava doesn’t have an average arm, average size, or average athleticism (he’s well above average in all 3) He put up 35 on ND’s highly ranked D, even with 2 picks at the goal line (1st pick was on receiver as it was a perfect back shoulder throw)
