Often this is actually the case. Pixar is known for adding tiny details most people won’t see, and animators in general are encouraged to add these details even if most people won’t notice. I remember when I was studying animation, part of the course was about set design, and we had to really hyperanalyse why a specific building design was chosen or even how city layouts were designed in a way that helped the viewer feel more immersed and like it could be real. The way a character is designed is purposefully done to tell you more about the character and their story - it is no mere accident. Character and set designers really go hard for these tiny details.
