Kinda. A stock is broken up into shares. Use SPY for the example. You buy 1 share of SPY, it goes up $1 you make $1. You buy 1 options contract of SPY, you now control 100 shares of SPY. But it doesn't function the same. An options contract gives you the right to purchase those 100 shares at a predetermined price no matter what the current stock price is. So lets say you buy a $4 SPY options contract. You now have the right to purchase 100 shares of SPY at $4. Even if the price of SPY goes up to $5, you can still use that contract to buy 100 shares at $4. There is a lot more to it than that, but that is the simplified version.

Good video, son funny how some people reacts to loosing money, and how some pretend to know what they are doing when not. The guy who lot 6k with Tesla was trading options. He entered long with a bunch of call contracts on Tesla earnings (bad idea) and he forgot to take the theta greek into account, he bought same week expiration date calls, so combining the two factors: earnings (the prices of the options on earning days skyrocket) and short expiration date (theta greek) resulted on the masive loss, even with the pre-market rise of Tsla stock.

Trader #2 rose some questions in me. Why would you trade that gap in the wrong direction with such a large position in the hope that it reverses once the gap is filled? Wouldn't you better do a snitchy short and then wait for an upside confirmation once the gap was filled?
