If you don’t like Achilles I think you’ll really like The Silence of the Girls. Achilles isn’t the hero and Briseis talks about how much she hates him a lot lol. It’s definitely a quiet book but I liked the perspective of the Trojan war from the people who weren’t “allowed” to have an opinion if that makes sense

I do love the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus but you're 100% correct about Achilles being a red flag. I think because it's not a Romance book I can forgive it. To me it's about an unequal relationship and I think that's interesting. It's not unrequited love, but it's almost close in many respects.

What I loved about the song of Achilles was the love Patroclus had for Achilles, Achilles himself was a bit of an arse but I loved Patroclus so much that it made the story

Oh I also had really mixed reviews on this The Song of Achilles. It took me forever to get through it because I just didn't care about anything, but then the last 20 pages I was crying like a crazy person (not for the love story, but for Patroclus alone). I ended up giving it 4 stars too. It was a 3 star all the way through, but the ending just wrenched emotion out of me.

I felt the same way about The Song of Achilles! I felt like I was missing something and even went back to re-read some of it, but nope, the love story just didn't work for me. I own and plan to read Circe but have been putting it off. Really like this vlog concept! I always tend to read from authors I know I love but rarely think about authors who are only ok, or even disliked a book. I definitely want to give some a 2nd chance now.

I felt the exact same way about History of Wild Places and gave it the same rating, lol. 3.5 stars. I rounded down to a 3 on goodreads. I didn’t like Circe either. I dnfed it. I’ll have to check out Song of Achilles and see if I like that one. Fun vlog!

Can I talk about "The silence of the Girls" for 2 sec? Yes, it's _mainly_ from Briseis point of view. But about 50% in, we're having Achille's too. And more and more... I was soo upset that by the end, we mostly have Achille's and less Briseis's. That my only complain about that book. Just to adjust your expectations.

I 100% agree with you on the Song of Achilles. I HATED Achilles and I never understood why Patrocolus loved him ever. It took me so long to get through it because their relationship was not interesting to me.

Hard agree with Song of, the romance is so underwhelming. A better love story in the same vein as this one is Axios by Jaclyn Osborn

Oh yeah, plot twists and endings affect how I'm going to rate thrillers for sure 😂 maybe there are exceptions but I've yet to read any.. a bad ending can definitely dampen the whole thing for me.

The only book that I’ve loved about the Trojan War was Warrior Rising by P.C.Cast. I haven’t found another one that I like although to be honest I haven’t looked 😉 It was so good that I haven’t needed to read anything else about it😂
