I remember the first time I heard this song. It was at the Cotton Club in Atlanta back in 2001. I had never even heard of Rilo Kiley prior to that. They opened for Nada Surf that night. I can't remember any other songs they did that night besides this one, but I was mesmerized by this tune. That bass line instantly grabs you. The guitar really drives the feel. The melody has a couple of surprises that work well. And all of that was enough to put Rilo Kiley and Jenny Lewis on my radar, thankfully. I would have never discovered just how good they are had I not gone to see Nada Surf that night and showed up early enough to see the opening act. You never know when an opening act at a small venue can turn into a huge find.

I know this is a weird theory. But I wonder if this album fell victim to bad timing. Released in late July 2001, The 9/11 attacks were almost just a month away. This album has lost of references to planes, travel, crashing...just wonder if it was a bit of a hindrance then.

She was probably like 25 or 26 here, but she is still awesome now. She was a pretty big child actress in the 80s with Troop Beverley Hills and The Wizard.
