In this video I shoot the Gemtech Outback II, the Dead Air Mask HD and the Q El Camino on a Ruger 77/17 .17hmr rifle. The rifle's barrel is 17", cut and threaded 1/2x28 for a suppressor. I'm using Hornady 17gr VMAX ammo.
As is typical for a video, the microphones clip high sound levels, so it is a bit tough to "hear" how loud the shots are or aren't, but you can get an idea of tone.
I mention in the video that the Q El Camino is still my favorite due to its light weight and super easy disassembly, but I do think that the Dead Air Mask HD might have been slightly quieter to me as the shooter.
I've been occasionally using a product called dB Foam that acts as an ablative (something that absorbs the energy in the can to help make it quieter; some people use wire pulling gel, water or even spit) and it also reduces first round pop in all of the cans I've used it in. That's not what was in the Mask, I think it still had a small amount of the oil that I wiped all of the baffles with before putting it back together.
Bonus outtake comedy at the end of the video..
