@@Beanie28 I personally think it happened outside of Russia, because there were 3 ways for legionnaries from Russia to home, one went south, one went through North America and one went through Panama canal. I've got this information from a member of so called Legiontrain (which is the train you see in the Cutscenes, it travels through the Czech Republic and sometimes even Slovak Republic, it is a museum on wheels and you can visit it) on a podcast about LTH. He briefly mentioned that they have documented events when two of the legionnaries were attacked and killed by a shark. Not certain if both at once or each at their own, that was a bad writing on my part.

To be honest. Langers behaviour and the lack of options in some scenarios (like that opening the will is completly pointless overall) kinda gives me the feeling that the devs initially wanted to have a more open and player determined story in the game but droped that later for one reason or another. Like that following neutrality or picking a side was supposed to play a much bigger role both in story and gameplay. It just feels like the game sometimes teases you with a diffrent option or path to take but then just completly shuts it down.

Perhaps the additional options will be added later? This is a demo after all. I hope the final game won’t be just this- I’d like the story to have more ambiguity with the morality of both sides and have incentives for the player in doing something that is morally wrong, but would help survival. It’d help elevate a great game even further, and add replayability aside from just going down a different path when the track splits.

Also a funni little """misrepresentation""" of history. From the russian civil war section of the Wikipedia article on the Czech legion, "By May 1918, the Czechoslovak Legion was strung out along the Trans-Siberian Railway from Penza to Vladivostok. Their evacuation was proving much slower than expected due to dilapidated railway conditions, a shortage of locomotives and the recurring need to negotiate with local soviets along the route. On 14 May, a dispute at the Chelyabinsk station between legionaries heading east and Magyar POWs heading west to be repatriated caused the People's Commissar for War, Leon Trotsky, to order the complete disarmament and arrest of the legionaries. At an army congress that convened in Chelyabinsk a few days later, the Czechoslovaks - against the wishes of the National Council - refused to disarm and began issuing ultimatums for their passage to Vladivostok.[20] This incident sparked the Revolt of the Legions."

@@mrkillerovsky Which is exactly why I said "mention/appearance" and not just "appearance". Maybe if you sneak close to red army officers during missions, you can listen to their banter and hear (aside from useful intel for the legion) that there's an army in Ukraine that fights against both the Reds and the Whites (which is what Makhno's Black Army did)(this method could also be used for the green armies). Or maybe you can come across the wreck of a red army tachanka as a location on the map (a tachanka is a horse-tracked carriage armed with a machine-gun, widely attributed to Makhno as his invention), and whilst the soldiers are examining the strange device to salvage or repair, a question comes up that asks who made this, and someone answers "It's clearly a red army asset, but I've Heard that tachankas were mainly made by Nestor Makhno", to which someone else says "the bandit from Ukraine?", and then someone retorts "Makhno isn't just any regular outlaw, he's an anarchist, him and his Black Army are fighting against literally everyone else in Ukraine" The specifics in dialogue could change and aren't final, but this is how I would mention the Makhnovists in the game.

It does feel very weird to see all these mentions of nuetrality and such, despite it seemingly going to great pains to make the reds seem like supervillains, it seems like at some point they were going for a more nuanced alt-history, maybe even diverging before the initial fuckup that made the legion so embroiled. My guess is this was too complicated for budget and timeframe, but they'd already done the section transition voicelines and live footage, so that being expensive, they kept it. Would also explain all the non-option text trees that seem like they're framed to have several, and Langer's contradictory behaviour.

It was very strange that you couldn't *not* burn the will after explicitly being told that you wouldn't be penalised for reading it. The only purpose of that reminder would then be to encourage the player to read the will, but if you're not allowed to leave it intact then the game could have skipped the option to read it or not as well and just forced you to open it. It feels like more options were available earlier in development, but then someone made an executive decision to simplify this quest. Here's what I thought the player should have been able to do after reading the will: take it, find a daughter of the general and tell her that you have to speak to her brother Vitaliy. If she responds that she has no brother, you'll have uncovered a plot to steal the land. That would make for a more interesting story. Langer's attitude is probably the writer's way of making the situation seem really grim and downtrodden to sell the message that fighting is misery as well as pointless. Good thing this isn't reflected in the gameplay aspect since you can very much succeed there. Some other games about war make the challenge legitimately unbeatable with the resources it gives you in order to drive the point home, and I'm glad this one doesn't do that. Man, it looks like the writing sometimes works against the gameplay instead of with it.
