With the new biotech update it’s actually entirely possible to have thriving colonies on ice sheet as you can have colonists that might as well be immune to the cold, don’t need sleep, and their stomachs might as well be able to eat anything, add in ideology so you can practically force everyone to be cannibals and boom. Pretty easy colony, you are going to still have strifes, but it should be much more manageable

Cassandra is harder than Randy in the long run, because she throws more consistent challenges at you while Randy is just random so you /might/ get a hard raid, while Cassandra will guarantee you difficult raids down the line

Randy has higher highs and lower lows. Randy gave me an entire year with only one raid, nice. Then he gave me 3 mech clusters in the span of an hour, not so nice. I've also noticed that Randy seems to kind of break in the late game. He just stops sending raids for whatever reason unless you're doing the reactor startup. I would get maybe one raid every 15 days.

@@NoNo-xh7ru My point still stands, because overall you're not guaranteed a difficult game, and you're likely to be able to beat Randy once you get a solid foothold. Yes, he /might/ send you a devastating raid, but the chances of that are just as good as any other event. Not to mention, as you said, he breaks late game which I'd imagine isn't a fun challenge. If you're looking for difficulty, have an actual difficulty curve with Cassandra. You're guaranteed to have a hard time to the end even if the raids themselves can't get as bad, you'll likely get more overall. Randy really isn't a good difficulty storyteller for this, he's better used for his random events in any casual setting.

@@Skellitor301_VA I think people get lazy with randy so they're blindsided when he hits them with a bunch of events. Same problem people get when playing Phoebe. Or at least the same problem people *would* get if anyone played with Phoebe. Cassandra keeps you on your toes constantly and Randy waits for a while before pulling the rug from under you. A lot of people just don't look far ahead enough to expect that is they interpret it as greater difficulty. It's dumb but what can you do.

Without some ridiculous luck or making some concessions in the challenge I don't think that's possible. There's literally no food up there other than humans and maybe a single snow hare that spawns in at the beginning of the game and then never again. You'd have to get a cargo drop with food or maybe a trader you can kill to make it past the first few days. And neither of those are sustainable long term. Maybe if you jumped between enough ancient complexes you could scrounge enough food to survive but it'd be a stretch.
