Old Jaken (50+) (reluctantly) plays games with her and scolding her when she misbehaved and eating meals with and teaches her and comforted her when they thought Sesshoumaru died by Magatshui. It was confirmed by Rumiko Takahashi and the Japanese voice actors : Jaken was Rin's 'father figure' - especially in final act. Poor little guy never gets the respect he deserves.

I fail to see how anyone could argue Seshy as a father figure here. He’s like an actual guard dog in human form. Ally and protector. It doesn’t hurt that Seshormaru likes being obeyed and adored. Why else would he keep jaken around? I can totally see a spin off of him dropping off gifts at Rins house and randomly he thinks about kagura and how she died and loved him and then just looking at rin when she’s older one day and just going “oh..huh...”

The author confirmed that Kagura's love was unrequited (source : Inuyasha wide), and Sesshoumaru apon the rare occasion would drop off gifts for Rin to find in Kaede's house. They didn't actually have an "proper visit" until she was an adult (over age 14 in feudal era) to discuss her choice - stay in the human village or return to his side.

Inuyasha English dub is one of the best dubs. The sub is awesome too, but I prefer a few voice in the dub. Like Kagura's English dub voice actress is awesome. I prefer Kagome in the dub as well. Of course both the original Japanese Sesshomaru and English dub Sesshomaru are beyond great.

The whole setup of Sesshomaru's and Rin's relationship is for Rin to be his bride. The way their relationship - not the characters themselves, how the show handles things - makes that revelation creepy. I'm glad Kaede was used as a voice of reason in order to promote a more healthy relationship between Rin and Sesshomaru. Although, I was never big on Sesshomaru and Rin. It was always Rin and Kohaku. Closer in age, similar backgrounds. What would be crazy is if each twin actually has a different father (I'm just saying this part to ruffle feathers, haha).

​@@MartianY2S I'll take a crack at their relationship (though KZbin comment section isn't the best place to voice your thoughts but whatever). To me it is clear that their relationship in the show and manga was left "blank" for lack of a better word. Just a lord and a ward. Clearly there is NO sign of romance, but we never see him doing things paternal, like teaching her something or scolding her (Jaken did that and was closer to a father figure though not completely). It was just clear that Sesshomaru valued her life more than anything. And that's it. At the end of the series with the 3 year time jump, they show Sesshomaru giving Rin a Kimono, which is a traditional gift of courting at that time but vague enough to keep their relationship, well vague. Super clear that she means everything to him but that's it. In my mind it was left up to the fan to think for themselves what happens after the credits roll. Maybe their relationship stays vague and just Lord and Ward. Maybe it does grow into a father daughter relationship. Or maybe she becomes a woman and falls in love. My point is that, before the sequel came out, anyone who tells you they "would certainly get married" or were clearly "father and daughter" was adding more to the story than was given. It seems that this sequel goes the route that they fell and love and had children. That makes me happy as I ship them but I could see they could have gone either way. Just my 2 cents.

@@angela.m.c That's right. Fpr some reason there are people who saw their relationship as father and daughter. But Sesshomaru was never like that towards Rin, he just let her follow them around. She took hunted her own food and makes her own fire. If anything, the only character that seemed to scold her like a parent would a child would be Jakken. The one who always felt like it was his responsibility to look after Rin when Sesshomaru wasn't there.
