Theft Test was an insane!!!!!!!! idea. Thanks for this review. This test made me lean towards Ring. Irrespective of the kind of neighborhood one lives in, the theft test is a quick way to disable the doorbell by someone who has their face covered.

I own both doorbells and recommend the ring doorbell. I can tell you the image quality and notification time are way better when your doorbells are wired instead of using the batteries. But ring still wins for me.

@@breannahillman8841 For me ring has a more user-friendly app if you are new to it, I would say if you want something that gives you the quickest notifications possible go with the ring, if you are looking for something that has slightly better video/auido quality go with the google, but that also heavily depends where your wifi is put and how far away either device would be, if you are planning to get more of the same cameras I would say ring hands down, it has a much better ecosystem and works much better in my opinion, this is something that you'd have to look into a little bit more to find out what one would fit you, I could keep going on with this but nothing is coming to mind at the moment

I bought and returned this. Other than the video quality not being great the two biggest issues were that it wasn't 3 hours worth of events storage (i.e. multiple 30 sec clips adding up to 3 hours), it is events stored for 3 hours before cleared which is a real issue if something happens at night and the clip is deleted before you get up. Secondly when you get a notification and click on it, I would get the message that the video is not ready for viewing and you have to wait a while until it's available.... totally unacceptable and can't believe Google released a product with these types of issues.

I had Ring system for about 2 years, it needed the WiFi extender to connect to my home WiFi and was remarkably unreliable. Ring replaced it twice but nothing ever worked well and I finally removed and trashed the extender and 2 doorbells. Went to a Nest system, including Mesh extender, it's worked perfectly, but was expensive.

the ring is just soo cheap looking and feeling. the nest looks and feel better to use. also if ur worried about ppl stealing ur nest, just build a frame to surround the nest so that the edges fit flush.

Asking people to build (or even buy separately) a frame or cage is a fairly decent consideration though, being these are primarily used in areas that people want to maintain some semblance of an aesthetic appeal on the front of their home, and may need to access the device at regular intervals for battery charging.

I own a ring doorbell and chime. It’s great to use , and the chime adds a nice touch as well. My only gripe which for me is significant to owning these types of devices is that u have to have a paid subscription to access the history. I know it’s cheap and affordable for most people but everything adds up. So I was wondering if any of u guys who reads this may know of another smart doorbell that doesn’t need a subscription to access the history or any other settings? Thanks 🙏🏻

I have the Nest doorbell and mine is impossible to rip of its mounting bracket. So I am not sure what you did to enable that to happen, but my guess is poor installation! The $6 a month for Nest includes all of your other cameras. This isnt true for ring. Ring actually get more expensive than nest when you add one camera. Also rings geofencing doesnt really do anything than set a reminder for you to change modes MANUALLY. Im a ring house about to go all google.

Exactly. There's an "anti-theft" wire that we added to our Google Nest Cams (Battery)--a normal guy could still probably rip them off the wire (it's pretty thin gauge wire, with light weight grommets), but we also mounted them at about 8 or 9 feet off the ground. [note: these cameras are mounted magnetically to a metal baseplate] The issue with the Nest doorbell is that you must unmount the doorbell to recharge it (I think that's correct; we ordered one, but haven't received it yet).

I was going to throw my google nest away because the notifications were garbage. That is until I turned on Visitor announcements. Now it will tell me through all my google speakers that someone is at the door! This is great because I live in an older house and there is some bad wiring for my wired doorbell so I had to go battery. Now it works great!

nest is easily stealable because it's rechargeable. unlike the ring where u can just swap out the batteries, nest has to be plugged in with a charger

Would ease of battery replacement be a negative for the Ring? It may be harder to steal, but it would be useless if you can just take out the battery and kill it in a second. At least with the Nest it would continue to record until the battery would be removed.

Question on google. It's 3 hours for free recording but idk what that means. Can you only see the most recent 3 hours? So if something happens at 1am when I'm asleep, does this mean that I can check footage at 7am when I wake up? Also, when I view the past 3 hours of footage, am I able to download the portion iof the needed footage (like 1 min of package delivery, not all 3 hours).

Idk if you found your answer, but I have the Nest battery doorbell & it records 3 hours of event footage, so yes if there is an event at 1 am, you can view it at 7 am, granted there wasn't 3 hours worth of event footage between then. And you can download the event video that you need, not the whole 3 hours since it isn't a constant recording.

Definitely missed the biggest difference between the 2 that’s the 24/7 recording with nest any event longer than two minutes will be missed by the ring because it only records clips up to two minutes

Nest is useless on iPhones ….on an iPhone the alert sound is so quiet that you end up missing them all, so if you have an iPhone go for the ring , it’s much louder on the iPhone and you can set notifications sounds. Such a shame because other than that the nest is really good

There are no 4K Video Doorbells. The Ring Pro 2 and a few others have a resolution in the 1440p-1800p range however. Google on the other hand is only 1080p, but they promise that the update to the Nest Wired will have the same 1500p resolution, but knowing Google I wouldn't hold my breath. Amazon has 70% market share for a reason.

I’m not a Ring fan, but even I can see the night test is not an accurate comparison. 4:12 clearly shows the wall to the left which reflects a lot of the infrared light making the figure harder to see. The Nest would do the same (as would all cameras with night vision) if it was in the same spot.

I often wonder what are the decisions/factors which limit creating a 'doorbell' camera that installs through an exisiting peephole/cat's eye/whatever it gets called as I live where extreme winter weather can regularly be -25C that I am skeptical of the outdoor installation being durable enough. I realise the house/building does radiant some abient heat but given the operating rate only to -20C it's still a concern .... I wouldn't mind having a doorbell ringer near the upper-middle of door like a door-knocker and would hope majority of the electronics could remain on the inner side of the door this way. I also wonder why there aren't yet other versions that could be add-on installation via deadbolt openings/fascias as alternate to exterior install so vital parts couod be on innerside of door for fewer parts directly exposed to elements of weather/climate. Especially seeing how some doorbell cameras are so easily yanked off (stealing it or just vandalising) as shown in the video of wireless battery ones, but perhaps wired ones could also be detached by malicious force ...

there’s a ring peephole doorbell device, i’ve never used it but it has 2 parts, 1 outside your door and one inside. you can also still use your peephole and it also has a privacy cover for it.

@@SmitePlayz_ I think its on googles end. Whenever I want to view the doorbell live on demand, 8/10 times it will not work. Viewing video history can take 2 seconds, or and hour, or sometimes not at all. It shouldnt be a connection issue and it is close to my network, and have zero issues with all other of my devices/cameras that are 3x farther away. I thought it was a bad doorbell so I replaced it and I have the same issues. From what I found it is on googles server side, as it has to transmit data to them first, before I can receive it. There is also no way to physically record footage, or access footage / monitor from a website. Other than physical storage, these used to be all the features of Nest before google took over. Nest was quick, easy, and reliable. Google swept in and took a crap all over its products and made new ones with less quality.

That theft test was bogus. He used the side of the stair post as leverage to use with his thumbs to pry it off with his fingers. How many people actually put their doorbell on a stair post instead of by their front door where they can see people or porch pirates?

@@Thxnder1174 True but their are plenty of things you can do to properly secure it. 1.) It has a camera so they can capture footage of the person trying to seal it. 2.) You can get something like a doorbell boa to secure it further 3.) Google offers a full replacement. These things in place should make it pretty safe from theft.

More reliable notifications? You know the Nest has a ridiculous 5 minute cooldown period between notifications, right? It also resets every time it detects motion after the first notification. It's completely fail on so many levels. I'm not saying the Ring is better, but at least you won't miss something that happens right in front of your door with Ring.
