I recommend using the paint sticks from Home Depot. They are free. You find them in the paint department. They have a short stick and a long stick and both are different thicknesses. Place the magnet on the stick and trace it with pencil. Cut and use white out to paint the edge and double sided tape to stick the surface.
@wannaDIY20202 жыл бұрын
Sure, you can use any type of wood you can find as long as the thickness fit, the paint stick is free can't beat that...I used the paint stick for my door sensor because I needed a thin one. I'm not sure about the white out, but whatever works for you I guess. You can also get a sample size paint which is only about $5 at Home Depot which will cover all your sensors for the whole house.

Thanks for creating this video. My sister faced the same conundrum trying to mount her new Simplisafe sensors. I tried to explain it over phone, but she had trouble visualizing how to modify. She's in CA, I'm in Arizona. Sent her a few of videos, like yours, to help her out. I told her to make the cuts with a Kobalt 10" cross cutting saw kit from Lowe's, (has 3 blades , one is same as reciprocating saw wood blade that the handle also accomodates) and not to attempt with a miter saw, pleez jeezus.

I have the same issue with my front door. I see they now sell extenders for the sensor part. Mine do not align like you before in the video. good idea to just use a piece of wood to line it up.

This is what 3D printers are for.
@wannaDIY20202 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct, but it cost to much to buy a 3D printer, right?
@soundmapper2 жыл бұрын
@@wannaDIY2020 "Too much" is subjective. A budget, but decent printer will run +/-$200. (Ender 3) Software is free, (Fusion 360 "maker" license) PETG filament is $20/roll and will make plenty of items. Obviously $200 is too much just to make risers for the ring sensors, but so is the equipment used here. Consider it as another great tool to have in the shop, one that works while you do other work. I checked on thingiverse and there are free ring riser downloads already posted for gen2 sensors. I can't tell you how many things I've printed off. I originally purchased it as an economical way to make pantograph templates, and just kept going from there. Anytime I need a custom made item that can be made of plastic, I draw it up and print. Often I just let it run before bedtime and magically wake up to finished parts. It is really something to consider.

@@wannaDIY2020 not at all, bought a Ender 3 Pro for 230. They have files for the doorbells and sensors and you buy white filament roll for 18 bucks. I also print jigs for wood working on it

Seems like that whole process would have been much easier just turning the Sensors Sideways!
@wannaDIY2020 Жыл бұрын
I already tried putting it side way and it doesn’t work on my sliding door. It might work on your sliding door or other sliding door, but not mines. But thank you for that thought.

Have you had any false alarms due to the metal door using this setup?

Actually the door in the video is made of vinyl material.

How long does the battery last and do you have idea how much does it cost? Thanks for sharing video
@wannaDIY20203 жыл бұрын
The Contact Sensor uses two CR2032 batteries, which is included when you purchase the Contact Sensor. The batteries last up to 3 years depending on usage. Cold temperatures may drain battery life faster. The CR2032 batteries are cheap, it cost about $1.00 to $1.50 each and it's even a lot cheaper if you buy them in bundle. The Contact Sensor cost $20 each, but you can buy in bundle package that would cost a little bit less. You can go to ring.com to find out all the information. And you can also get the alarm startup kit from Costco or costco.com.

Or could just mount the magnet on the frame side and the batteries on the window side. You'd only need to make one shim.
@wannaDIY20203 жыл бұрын
Yeah your right, but I didn’t want the ring logo to be upside down so that’s why I did the extra work. But that is a very good observation, if you don’t mind the little detail you can certainly go with only one shim. Thank you for pointing that out.
@Weld24_CosmicKat Жыл бұрын
i wouldn't want it upside down, either, im a perfectionist and it would irk me to no end. I like how you were mindful to protrude battery case, so you'd actually be able to remove the battery case cover once installed.

Plus, i have worked 15 years as a fabricator/welder, following in my Father's footsteps, he availed me of his knowledge at an early age, and i like problem solving and making modifications, so i would certainly take the extra steps to make it tidy.

Would the sensor work with the no custom fitting?
@vinduong5603 Жыл бұрын
Yes, as long as the sensor lineup. I had to custom mine because my sliding door doesn’t align properly for the sensor.

I wish someone would record the alarm sound. That way I'd know if it's enough for me to hear or to buy.
@wannaDIY20202 жыл бұрын
Even though the alarm sound is recorded the experience will not be the same as being present during the alarm going off. But I can tell you that the sound is very loud and high pitch, very uncomfortable and it create a sense of panic. There is also a Ring Alarm Outdoor Siren is designed to alert anyone passing by and deter intruders. You can add the Outdoor Siren to your Ring Alarm and when it's triggered, it will sound a loud 100dB+ siren and flash a red strobe LED light to alert anyone passing by. Let me what are you looking for in an alarm. I like the Ring Alarm system because it is very affordable and they have really good customer services which are a big deal in my opinion.

wannaDIY thank you I've just bought the ring alarm system. My brother coming to today to install it. My husband just passed and I'm scared by my self so hopefully I can sleep at night.😃

Can you paint the sensors the color of the door?
@wannaDIY20203 жыл бұрын
According to Ring, It's definitely possible, but they don't recommend painting your contact sensors as the paint may possibly cause issues with the device if it gets inside or it could cause issues with connecting to the other half of the sensor. If you really want to paint it you just need to be careful to prevent the paint from going into the battery area or anywhere inside the sensor it should be fine.
