I want to give thanks and also add some info that might be helpful: After sanding, polishing and cleaning the plastic, I recommend spraying a sealant to give it a protective UV coat to make the polish last. I used an automotive spray sealant after the last polish with 2500 grade sandpaper.

I was not as patient as you so I didnt remove it but I did try it and it 100% worked. Lots of elbow grease but after 10-20 mins I was done and my ring went from unusable to a clear picture again. THANK YOU!

Awesome Thanks for the post. I just purchased a new unit to replace a flood light cam with the same haze. Old unit is still in good working order. Sanding that one to install at a different location.

@@ibanez720rg Is there anything you can use to cover the plastic after you have cleaned it so it wont happen again, i had a look at the screen covers on the net but they are saying that they are a waste of time. Thanks for any help.

@@valleysman1234 Sorry I just saw this reply. When I was searching for a UV protection, I saw some mention 303 Graphene Spray. I already had a bottle for detailing cars. It is supposed to last a year. Every few months I'm going to clean the lens and reapply the spray. It applies kind of like a wax that you buff off. So far so good. Some of those Headlight Repair kits have UV protection wipes. I thought about buying one of those just for the UV wipe.

That lens comes off, behind it is a double sided tape about a 1/4" wide. You need a pick or flexible blade to remove it. Once removed, you can polish it or flip it over if the bottom side isn't cracked.

Did you find a uv protection cover? If so can you please share it? I've tried searching but can't find anything.
@ibanez720rg Жыл бұрын
The cover I used was from eBay. It's not really a UV cover. Just a protective cover like what your phone has. After I purchased it, I realized it was for the first gen camera. It was only slightly different so I was able to make it work. It's made by a company called ArmorSuit. As far as UV protection I've been applying 303 graphene spray. It's supposed to last several months. I apply when I use it on my car (car care product). It still looks new.

I used isopropyl alcohol as well. The 91% worked best. I just put the alcohol on a paper towel and kept it moist. I rubbed until I the view became clear on my phone.

Exactly the problem I have, glad I found your video. How long did you go at it with each grit level?
@ibanez720rg2 жыл бұрын
Maybe 1-3 minutes each. It didn't really take that long. Except for the first layer. Removing that coating took a bit longer. No more than 10.

My attempt wasn’t so successful. Still very hazy. You mentioned the UV protection. Was this a layer you had to peel or scrape off? Or with enough sanding of the 600 it cuts through?
@ibanez720rg Жыл бұрын
The UV protection is the top layer that begins to deteriorate and causes the issue. You have to sand that completely off until it's just the plastic lens. Then use the polishing paper to make it clear again.
@rcoletti1 Жыл бұрын
Did you use any product other than these polishing cloths? I’m wondering if I need to try a lower grit sand paper?
@ibanez720rg Жыл бұрын
Just a piece of 600 grit "normal" sandpaper to cut through the UV layer. Then I used the polishing paper.

You’re the MVP. That worked. Thanks for this.

Can you just start at like the 1500 or do you recommend starting at 600 and go up from there? By the way, greatly appreciate you posting up what seems like the only video on YT covering this issue. 👍
@ibanez720rg2 жыл бұрын
You could certainly try the 1500 and see what happens. It will probably take a lot more work to see some results. Even though I was turning the camera off between takes, it really didn't take long per sandpaper used. Maybe 2 minutes tops for each piece of sandpaper used. I guess it depends on how bad your lense is.

Does it work on headlight covers ??
@ibanez720rg2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it probably could but would take a long time. If you mean the lens of the actual headlamp housing, I just restored my own using the kit from Turtle Wax. It was $12ish from AutoZone. They look brand-new and I highly recommend it.
