Ring of Kerry Ireland

My first trip to Europe was to Ireland. When we landed in Shannon, I was so overwhelmed by being in another country, I had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. I have been to over 20 countries since then, but that memory is precious. I was a late starter to the world of traveling..almost 42. It was 30 years ago, September 1990.

Brings back beautiful memories of my stay in nearby Killarney. Only wish I knew Gaelic so I could talk to the old gentlemen that were always sitting at the pub bars. Ireland: Where's it's always a lovely day for a Guiness!

Old men speaking Gaelic are pretty hard to find these days outside the Dingle peninsula perhaps. I'm guessing they were speaking English with a thick Kerry accent. Most of them are farmers who have never been out of Ireland.

Ive took a plane to Cork, from there ive taken a bus ride for two hours to Killarney, from there ive walked the ring of kerry, but you can rent a car in killarney i think and drive the route.

ive followed a route i have gotten trough the travel agency, took met 12 days, went from bed n breakfast to bed n breakfast. One B&B was luxe, another was just a spare room at a farm :P

why is it called a RING of kerry? is it supposed to be RINN which means a type of sea point or beach point or something like that? just wondering.

The ring is the road that goes around the Kerry peninsula and covers about half the county. It's a sort of a circle - almost - kind of. If you ever go there go SLOW and give yourself 4 or 5 days to get around it. Don't be like the Americans who are all go go go.
