How to set a ring of steps with an OCB. We were told it was IMPOSSIBLE!!!

I tried the OCB versus the ratchet strap and I favor the Ratchet strap, but thats me! One thing I do is I always have 8 treehopper steps, just having the extra 2 is nice, you can space them all evenly, but if the tree is smaller, you can put a couple against each other, ( the ones I will stand on most) makes it pretty comfortable..Nice video!

Yeah, something went wrong with the upload. Finally had my daughter help me figure it out when she was home for a weekend visit.

Can you make a video with how to run the strap through the buckle?

That's the version with the "safety J sewn to webbing"?
@paulcrave3112 Жыл бұрын
I don't know what a safety J is. Do you mean the hook connection end with the spring loaded pop up that keeps it from coming off? If that's what a safety J is then, yes. Although I cut off the spring loaded pop up keeper.

Looks great! I'm looking for an alternative to the ratchet strap. Hang Free sells amsteel for two wraps around the tree for a ring.

That might be a good idea. I hate using ratchet straps in the woods.

Thanks for the video. Any chance you can do a video on the strap/buckle? I just got one from tree hopper and I’m not exactly sure how this works

Thanks for watching and for your question. There are a bunch of youtube videos on how to thread an OCB. I'll attach one here. Once you get the hang of it, it's super simple. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3ioY6Oampd0hKssi=IqEkMs5BF5A6Z-PO Good luck.

Paul, Have you used other steps? If you have are these the steps you like the best? why?
@paulcrave3112 Жыл бұрын
I have not tried other steps. Bullman steps look nice, but I like the way these stack up. Bullman look like kind of a mess stuffing them into a sack. I'm sure they make noise doing that. I have not noticed and discomfort from not having rounded edges. I don't always use a ROS. On several of my presets, I have bolts in the tree for a ROS and use them in conjunction with my platform. I still like having a platform. This morning I stood for about 30 minutes and if felt great. lol. Can't do that with a ROS. But it sure makes it nice to get around the tree and into a solid shooting position. Good Luck and thanks for watching.

I tossed that Buckle bc I could figure it out . Was driving me crazy

Darn, too bad. I had forgotten how to thread it once and I had to look it up on KZbin or something. Maybe I should make a video on how to thread an Over Center Buckle (OCB).
I thought initials were two letters? All joking aside, I’m returning my Bullman ring of steps, too noisy, too much fooling around adjusting steps. I’m going with a platform. Your point is well taken, the tree hopper steps look good and are easily adjustable as you demonstrated.

All three of my Summit climbers have something on the platforms to keep my feet from the cold metal with my favorite solution being the ultralight 2”x16” “Treestand Treads” adhesive Strips from Third Hand Archery. Great suggestions on the ring of steps.
