The Ring Doorbell 3 has lacklustre improvements over the previous version. The main difference being the pre-roll, which doesn’t even work at night. The Ring Doorbell 2 does have settings where you can change the range sensitivity and person motion identification. The Ring 3 should have been a new form factor plus a 4K sensor.

Good video, got right to it and honesty. Refreshing. A small section stating standard voltage of pre-installed door bells is needed. As a newbie to Ring an explanation of the what Chime does and its purpose is needed. But overall good video.

Really excellent video - enjoyed the comparison video clips. Was thinking of buying the 3 Plus on Amazon Black Friday deals but having seen this, and having verson 2 already, it is oviously a complete waste of money as the camera is just the same - not that great, and it's so disappointing that Ring didn't increase the quality as pretty poor. That said, this week, I was so grateful for having my Ring cameras which I've connected to my Amazon Echo's because at 3.31am this Thursday, had a 'voice notification' which woke me and my wife up, to say 'someone was on my drive'. I flew out of bed to my window and actually caught a thief in my car so shouted at him and he ran off immediately - probably saved me losing my car, so cannot thank Ring enough for these devices - not for their video quality but for the notification capability. Interestingly, there's no way that Ring allows you to contact them with stories like this which is a lost opportunity because these are an incredible device for the notification process alone.

Well, at least the 3 still does what the 2 (or Pro) can do at night. I have to commend Ring, in general, for how slick the installation packages are and how the set up is uniform. My main concern, after a late-September 2018 installation, is how Ring will take the direct UV radiation of summertime. We got through last summer with flying colors. The Doorbell Pro still looks and functions like new. If the Doorbell Pro makes it through this summer I'll be pleased. I really don't know how long it can take all of that UV energy. My stepson installed a keypad entry lock on the front door in 2015 and the sun killed that screen in less than 18 months.

Am I the only one noticing the vast improvement in frame rate and sharpness between Ring 2 and 3? The camera sensors might have the same specs, but Ring 2 footage is choppy and blurry (07:20) compared to Ring 3's crisp image (08:33).

6:18 I had a similar problem with my computer LED’s which I simply fixed by putting some double sided tape on some 160g card stock paper and sticking it directly to the light, this decrease the amount of light significantly as it had to travel through the paper as well, obviously the thicker or thinner the can’t stock the brighter or dinner it will be. hope this handy tip helps 😉

The ring 2 received an update last year to enable it to adjust motion distances. So double the price for just 5gz connectivity and pre-roll that only works during the day. Not worth the price for what you get. Great video though 👍

In Iowa, there's a few straight weeks in the winter where it gets consistently below -5 F, will this work still even though it says the temperature recommendation is -5 to 112 F? Also how do you charge the removable battery? Does it plug in like a phone or is there a separate docking charger that one has to purchase?

I had the Ring Pro last week which I liked for the most part with the exception of the sound being inaudible... Had to send back as I couldn't talk to anybody at the door. Ordered the 3 plus which should get here tomorrow but now I'm not so excited to get. Pre-roll is not very good. I guess I'll try it and decide...

Great honest review, completely agree a small incremental update for the sake of it with no major improvements to functionality. The only benefit of these doorbells are the flexible power options they offer. Wish they had gone tall on the aspect ratio and improved the resolution. Pre-roll video quality looks poor for an expensive doorbell. Ring and Arlo won’t be shipping their latest doorbells to Europe/Ireland for another few weeks so will see then which to buy, Eufy also looks good.

Yes they make both ! The one I got at Costco for $100 is able to just use with the battery and can be able to be use with wires. It also comes with a year subscription. $100 value ! (It’s the 2nd generation)

I have the Pro 2 and it basically sucks. Mutiple times someone is standing at my door and it doesn't detect if it does detect it's when they are walking away, thats 'if' however it never fails to detect cars 70 feet away. wifi signal is super strong, RSSI-39. It's ridiculous that capturing someone approaching the door is an 'added, new' feature on the 3. thanks for your review

I have had a Ring now for several years. It was easy to install since it took the place of my regular door bell . One big problem is that my front door is recessed so the light balance is very bad. Most of my front yard is blurred out because of the light balance difference. I would add a picture if I could. I have an Arlo Ultra camera system around the house and love it. I'm wondering if the Arlo camera is a better fit for my application

Thanks for doing the camera comparison in the end part of your video! It's indeed disappointing they didn't change the most important thing (camera) at all. Btw, the built in mic is also terrible, they should improve it. You can hardly hear anyone talking normally, unless they get really close to it.

Also I noticed that in Ring's little video clip showing off the pre-roll, the main camera quality looks WAY better than the Doorbell 2 (certainly much higher framerate), so it is disappointing to find that it's actually not like that at all!

The first thing you should comment on is the subscription service requirement and it's price for the Ring doorbells. Don't wait until the last part of your product review. This is a biggest issue for most people. It's a never ending bill . That can add up to a lot of money for the life of these Ring doorbells.

The Ring 3 has a dual band connection and the 5 GHz band makes sure that the doorbell doesn't get disconnected do to interference on the 2.4 GHz band. As far as getting a more secure WiFi signal to your doorbell, you may need to install a WiFi extender to extend the distance of the signal from your router.

the delay issues are down to wifi signal and nothing else so hardwiring it wont make any difference apart from having to recharge your battery every 3 to 4 weeks

Yeah, that's a big fail on ring's part as far as I'm concerned! Disappointed with Mr. Seminov. When you call customer service about issues with doorbell 2 staying connected to wi-fi, they blame it on your network when they know it's their product that is lacking. I have to restart my modem/router once a week due to doorbell and spotlight cam dropping signal. Not cool. Thanks for the info as I was seriously looking at upgrading to doorbell 3, but It's not worth it. Even looked into their trade in option, but they're only willing to give a whole $15 for my one year old doorbell 2!!! I've learned never to buy the first version of ANYTHING. They could've at least upgraded the resolution to 2k.

I'm sorry that you are having such signal issues. I ended up with three or four extensions (with antennas 📡) but I bought those preemptively. I get various Device Health readings but they average in the upper-40s generally. I reboot our router at least once a week and have seen the Device Health numbers generally improve doing that but maybe it's just my subjective view of things.

Great video once again but you fail to mention about . If you have some Amazon echo devices that display video. The new ring pro will automatically connect to these devices when the door bell is pushed. It will announce and. Instantly display who is at the door. So it you have a echo show or spot in your kitchen, bedroom and living room or all 3 in each area that I mention. You can instantly see and speak to the person who rang the doorbell though your echo devices. That was the selling point for me also I forgot to mention. It also automatically connects to your echo devices so there’s no need to go in the echo app to add it. Also if you have a good WiFi mesh system that dual band you can connect it to that and choose whatever band is better without buying the chime pro and for The pre-roll video feature some people homes are well lighted with porch lights or motion sensor porch lights battery power or AC.

You would think this enhancement where an Alexa show will instantly display video of the caller should apply to all ring devices not just the 3 or the pro as it most likely is a software rather than a hardware improvement with improved communication between the doorbell and the echo show.

I'm actually using the Doorbell from Vivint. But that's a full security system that i have installed. If i didn't have that i'd be torn between the Arlo Doorbell or the Eufy Battery doorbell. I like the 1:1 aspect ratio on Arlo but i like the 2k video quality of Eufy. So you just need to decide which one you like more.
