You didn't mention it but I'm assuming the solar charger shown which is for the 3 works on the 4 also?

Do you still need the battery in the doorbell if its on solar?

Yes. The solar panel charges the battery and keeps it full. That’s what powers the doorbell.

There is one video doorbell (I do not recall the brand) that will record video without a subscription. Sounds good, until I found out that other brand will stop recording when answered so you will not be able to record the conversation after the door is answered. I would rather have the Ring with its $30/year subscription that will record audio after answered. I currently have the Ring 3+. It is similar to the Ring 4 except the pre-roll is in black and white. The Ring 3 which is about $50 less than the 3+ is essentially the same as the 3+ but without pre-roll. By the way, on the 3+ pre-roll does not work at night. Does anybody know if pre-roll works at night on the Ring 4?

Because it’s hard to. Battery life depends on the door activity.
